    Smart Phone versus dedicated GPS

On my recent hunt I tried out the cellphone with the onxmaps app. I put my iPhone 6 on airplane mode with low screen brightness, like everyone says to do, turned on the Onxmaps app... my battery life drained FAST! 5-6min. of use and my battery charge dropped 35%. There is no way i could use...

    Beginners in South Texas

To add to what others have said, Cabela's, Bass Pro, and Dallas Safari Club all host different events to get kids involved in the outdoors regularly (Hunters Education, expos, classes). Garmin InReach

John, I think thats what i will do. I have a Garmin 64st with a chip, i can just have it with me as a backup. I haven't used the onxmap phone app on a hunt yet, just around town, so probably a good idea to have both with me.

    Garmin InReach

Just picked up a Garmin Inreach today, the communication advantages that this device has caused me to drop the Spot subscription and try this thing out. Sure do wish it would support an onXmap chip... at least i can get onXmaps on my phone.

Colorado: Salida/Buena Vista area....... Unit 57/58

It's a beautiful area. I camped, fished, and 4-wheeled up there years ago. Never hunted it though. Always saw lots of game when I was up there. Best of luck!
