Saw the first signs of the spring?? deer migration beginning last night on the way home. two differnt small bunches of deer on the move, and this morning 2 road kill.
Leaving Friday for Arizona with a archery javelin tag in my pocket. Don't know why but I think I look forward to this hunt more than any other; It's just a relaxed fun hunt, usually better weather than here at home and neat country. If it goes well I'll post some pics on my return. If you don't...
I've been reading both Eastmans mag for a few years now. I don't think I'll renew this year. Other than the names changing all the stories read the same. They must only have a couple of editors helping write the stories.
I wouldn't leave to a phone call, get an answer by mail or email. then laminate it, frame it or something and carry a copy with you anytime you're carrying that gun, That's if the ruling comes back in your favor.
Better than a phone call, use mail or Email, if it comes back in your favor, laminate it, frame it, or whatever and carry a copy with you anytime out hunting.
I believe in aging meat, for 4-10 days depending on conditions. Aging is just controlled rotting. The idea is to break down the fiber to make them more tender. A fine Steak House owner once told me the only difference between aged beef and rotten beef was 12-24 hours. I did read once that meat...
Just read a thread where someone mentioned running across a rattlesnake. How does everyone feel about em? Myself I figure they do a lot more good than harm, and have more right to be out in the sticks than I do.. Even kinda like messin with em once in awhile. I usually just let them be. The only...
I've often wondered why the antelope numbers in Northern Nevada aren't higher. Not that it would ever match WY, but there's lots of similar country. I believe for the most part the winters are easier. Is it management, different grass species, or maybe less agriculture??? Any thoughts? Facts?
Sorry, gotta vent a bit, Have a brother-in-law that beleives in archery a shot in the rump is ethical because it will cut the femoral artery. And is passing this along to his kids. Am I alone on this thinking it's an unethical shot??
Got things all sighted in, Camps loaded, pulling out in the morning to set up camp get a little afternoon, evening glassing, and hunt opens Saturday 1/2 hour before sunrise.. I've been holding out for a nice 4 point the last couple of years, passin on the little ones, but the freezers empty...
Sounds like to me you've been a good student in the Elk hunting school. Every time out you learn a bit more. Sounds like you're about ready to connect with a good one. Just keep at it. Some luck out the first time out, but thats not the usual.
Is there anyone out there making a 10x36 binnocular. I have pair of Nikon Drury 10x36 and think they're great. Kinda looking for a replacement but can't seem anything in 10x36. I'm small framed and most 10x42 take up just a bit too much chest space to be comfortable. ooh, looking in the $300 range.
I got area 10. A lot of deer in the unit, If you're willing to get in far enough (not me, over the hill a few too many years) can be a decent trophy area. I usually look for a big one, will take a mediocre one, and pass on the small ones.
I maybe a bit old school, I wouldn't go with windows, and such in a good canvas wall tent. just holes, flaps and stuff to cause problems. during hot weather we just roll or prop up the bottom of the walls for good ventilation. Never used ground clothes either. If the weathers dry theres no...
That is tough, but safety first. How bad would you feel if a serious accident did occur under your watchful eye. I would error towards safety myself. It's just a fact some people for whatever reason should not be in control of deadly weapons.
My dad got this deer in 1946 north of Gooding Idaho, while home on leave from the Navy. The antlers hung on the shop on the family farm forever. about three years ago my brothers and I had them mounted for Fathers Day. We had them scored, I can't remember off the top of my head what they went...
