2020 hunt? Trying to figure out how to get there?! I'd start driving now, swim across the Bering Sea, and get a cab from the Russian coast to said hunt local! Somehow, I'd just get there!
Congratulations! I'm looking forward to the end result and story to come!
I'm in a quandary! I'll be out of reach with no means to claim my prize on Feb 4th! Randy, will you give me until Feb 11th to reply back after you announce my name?;)
Seriously, Congratulations Randy on this milestone! You've put in alot of hard work for this!
I haven't read all of the replies, so forgive me if I'm repeating someone else.
To be honest, if birds that you're seeing across the river has been recent, that will most likely change before season starts in April, and they're probably a flock of hens. If so, the flock will bust up and...
Beautiful bull and photo!
I hope you didn't have to reposition that thing to get the perfect angle! If that's how he landed after the shot, perfect!
Congratulations!
I'm not trying to highjack the thread and turn it into a taxi price vs quality, but I can resist.
I pay $600+ for a whitetail mount. Elk? Much much more. If I'm going to go through what it takes to kill a mount worthy elk, I'm paying top dollar for quality.
As for the OP question...
Thanks everyone for the feedback! That has been very helpful!!
Mid September is out because of my annual elk hunt, which lasts 2-3 weeks. So it'll need to be between May and late July, assuming before May is out because of weather and road closures.
My wife and I are thinking about visiting Yellowstone this spring/summer. We both have extremely flexible vacation time to go, but we're not sure of an ideal time to go. Would early May be decent with avoiding alot of the crowds? If not, any suggestions would be welcome.
If it's any consolation, I started hunting with what is now a great friend, who I met from a post just like yours. Been going to MT for a three week +/- trip for four years now. So don't worry about feeling out of place.
Good luck!
Thanks for the update. I've been wondering about this and the outcome. And thanks for sticking with this, although his doings keeps costing you considerable time and money.
The intent of me posting this thread was to share a link to a podcast where the host (4 million subscribers) has an audience who is mainly not in the hunting community, that happens to be a hunter, who had a guest (Rinella), and they had a very informative 2 hour conversation about hunting...
Congrats on the gameland doe! Those are trophies in NC! As for the equipment you used? It works, and much better than sliding them across the ground to the truck!
Rinella is one of the best ambassadors to hunting, in my opinion. He does an incredible job on Joe Rogan's podcast! One reason that I believe I enjoyed it so much is because JRE reaches alot of the non hunting audience who would otherwise maybe never hear something like this...
