    Rod building

This blank is popular with rod builders making lake trout ice fishing rods and sounds like what you are looking for. http://www.rainshadowrodblanks.com/product-line/solidglass-saltwater-multipurpose/ Just cut the .385x.105x72” model down to the length you want.

Colorado mule deer best unit 9 Resident points?

I’m not sure how to answer your question. With 9 points, I’d wait a year or two for one of the Gunnison area hunts.

    Covid-19 fact

“Fact” must mean something different in AZ than CO. I do look forward to reading the backlash your post generates.

    Goats and Bighorn sheep

Will mild pneumonia effect reproductive rates of ewes? Will survival of wild sheep with mild pneumonia be lower than survival of healthy sheep after a hard winter? What about lambs, can they survive it? Because a few captive sheep survived for 100 days with mild pneumonia contracted from goats...

Colorado mule deer best unit 9 Resident points?

I wouldn’t use 9 points on a unit 30 tag. A few years ago it took 6 pts to have a chance to draw 3rd season, last year it was 100% with 5 pts.

    Seek Outside Pack noise?

I have a Unaweep. In cold weather, the fabric can be a bit noisy when opening or closing the roll top. Open it slowly like you would with a zipper on a pack and it’s fine. I’ve never noticed any noise while wearing the pack.

    Long Range Hunting

Anyone can point a range finder at a deer and then twist a turret to account for the range. The difficult part in making the first shot count at extended ranges is accounting for wind. You can measure wind at the shooter, but can only judge wind at the animal. If shooting across a canyon, you...

    Utah Elk Draw

The success ratio for UT limited bull elk applicants with 11 points was 2% in 2019. Anything less than 11 points gets much worse (10 points = success ratio of 1%) as it coincides with the change to where NRs could apply for all species each year. Run the numbers for 1% over 30 years vs 2% and 2%...

    WTF happened to Sturgill Simpson

The problem is there are way too many Creedmoor owners in that band. Go higher than 23% and your dead to me.

    Utah Elk Draw

The problem with applying in UT isn’t just that the odds are terrible, it’s that the odds are terrible and getting worse. In 2014 there were 81 years worth of NRs in the limited elk pool. In 2019 there were 121 years worth of NRs. In 2018, almost 5000 new folks jumped into the limited elk draw...

Based on personal experience with Vortex optics, I can’t help but think of Tommy Boy when I hear people rave about the warranty. YMMV

    Mountain House deal alert

If I’m going to be eating Mtn house for more than a day or two, I have to offset them with some dried fruit or prunes. I’ve tried a couple other brands, alpine aire and backpackers pantry, and prefer mtn house.

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission Meeting - January 15 - 16, 2020

C’mon ED. The article you linked and the quote you placed in post #79 clearly state that the estimates are from “lumping the wounding averages from ALL METHODS OF TAKE”. There is no mention of those numbers being attributed to only archery hunters.

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission Meeting - January 15 - 16, 2020

The decision to make the three SW elk DAUs limited for archery had a lot more to do with addressing complaints over crowding than it did with resource concerns. Despite the recent increase in otc archery hunters in those DAUs, archery cow harvest ranged from 20-30% of total antlerless harvest...

    Colorado fishing tackle advise

I recommend not holding them horizontally by the jaw unless you are going to keep them or you enjoy maiming fish.
