I'm a Dave Ramsey guy, so going broke is a big no-no. ;) This being said, we're on BS6 and it's not like I have all this debt hanging over my head I need to take care of.
I completely concur about having mentors! Thankfully, I found quite of few people who helped me get started whitetail hunting and it still took me 4 seasons to harvest my first critter. Being at such a distance from the west, it's significantly harder to get that group of folks to help me...
Thank you for your insight! I didn't grow up camping or hunting and never did either until I had my son and we joined scouts.
I had thought about going to a different unit this year, but we really did run into a great bunch of folks at the campsite we chose and we saw elk. I believe it won't...
Great to hear about your experience and how you're still getting after it at 62!! I worry about how much longer I will be able to do this, much like Big Fin talks about.
Thankfully, my CO hunting buddy has a wall tent w/ a wood stove. :) I think I'll be buying one as well here shortly to use...
I actually said something very similar when I came from from my first trip out west this past October. I said many people spend lots of money to go backpacking/hiking in CO and that's basically what it ended up being.
Very cool!!! I'm being told by the doc I should be good to go w/in 4-6 months from my surgery and that was December. I'm praying I'll be good as new come May!!!
That’s awesome!!! I’m guessing this was on private property? I have another option of doing an elk hunt on private property in UT https://outdoors-international.com/rkhc3/. This hunt is quite a bit more expensive ($9-15k for an elk vs. $12.5k for an elk, muley, and pronghorn), but is 100%...
Thank you for your insight!! The hunt I’m looking at includes pronghorn, muley, and elk in the timeframe for elk I’m interested in hunting with a rifle. I’d like to get into bow hunting out West, but the whole reason I’m getting this influx of cash is from an accident that jacked up my...
Thank you!! My buddy is a hunting concierge through Outdoors International/GotHunts.com and they do all the research to find good outfitters and ensure they have what I'm looking for in terms of an experience and a price within my budget.
Thanks! I'm good with gear, except for maybe a wall tent with a stove. Thankfully, my CO hunting partner has that covered on our DIY hunts. Like you said, we're not getting any younger and I don't want to be sitting here in front of my laptop typing about trying to get my first elk 5-7 years...
I understand about hunting an area more than once. I've experienced this deer hunting as well as turkey hunting. I have plans on hitting the same place in CO I went to last year to try and get one down.
That's true, but this place has a 90%+ opportunity rate.
I believe the only big gap in...
I wasn't planning on going with a guide until 2020, so I'll get at least one more elk trip in (CO if not other places too depending on draw results) to help in this regard.
