We just booked a salmon trolling charter out of Ketchikan, so that’s taken care of now. I’m pumped!! Now I just have to figure out how to get any fish we catch back home.
The NRA’s hunter Ed course is the only thing they provided that I ever found useful, and that was free. Never felt the need, or want, to give them a cent.

This place bundles vehicle and boat rental in with your cabin rental. I’ve never personally stayed there, but would if/when I get a chance to hunt POW.
I had mine done about 7 years ago. There’s definitely some discomfort for a while afterwards when you put your bits to use, but otherwise it’s as easy as it gets.
I’ve only seen one rabbit while out hunting w. OR. I was very tempted to shoot it, but all I had was my 308, and it was on Weyerhaeuser land that I wasn’t sure about the access permissions.
Sure enough, though, it was just chilling on the side of the road.
I did draw a SW bear tag, though, so...
Oh, gnarly! Yeah, I don’t want any part of that. I’ll definitely check in with the nearest ODFW biologist before I go to get the current state of things in the area.
My wife booked us for an AK cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line for the last week of June. Has anyone here been on one of these? Have any recommendations for what to do and/or avoid?
My wife grew up on POW, and we lived in Anchorage for a few years, so this isn’t either of ours first time to AK...
That’s helpful! The wife and I have been talking about making a trip to Steens mountain. Could be a good opportunity to get a jackrabbit while I’m at it. I’ve also heard the coyotes are booming down there. I’ve never hunted those before, either, but wouldn’t mind a hide for the living room.
Hey all,
Hoping to get some advice/info on hunting jackrabbits in central OR.
I live over on the west side of the state, but most hunters I talk to seem to regard east of the cascades as the real hunting jewel of the state. I’ve started buying points for big game out there, but it will be...
I don’t understand the people who say “guns are for keeping, not selling”. I’ve heard it from more than a few people, typically in regards to the ones they have and never use, but for some odd reason won’t sell.
At a few hundred to a few thousand a piece, to consider selling a non-starter is...
I don’t disagree with a lot of what he said, but the hypocrisy was laughable.
I particularly liked the end. After spending 45 mins talking about how over crowding is the fault the hunting industry wanting to sell people stuff, he then proceeded to tell everyone to buy Gulch gear.
