I finally finished my encore. Last year Illinois allowed us to hunt with strait walled cases. So I bought a 45-70 barrel and the build began. It shoots awesome, and kicks pretty good for such a light gun. I had a muzzle brake installed, cerakote black graphite applied and had the stocks dipped...
My 700 is 8lbs scoped. My encores with the magnum barrels are at least that. The magnum barrel is 4 lbs alone. With the longer barrels they tend to get barrel forward heavy. Not to mention they feel like they are long
I use a BOG Red legged devil aluminum tripod. Super light weight. I have a yoke for my rifle and a head for my binos. I shot an elk off of them 2 years ago @315yds. Rock solid and light weight.
Before last season I upgraded all of my camo. I wanted to go lighter and still be warm. I decided to go with NOMAD. I went with the Mossy Oak droptine camo and it works awesome. I bought the early season gear and the late season stuff also. So far it has held up and performed as expected. It is...
I was fortunate to draw a 1st season bull tag on the edge of the reduced tag area in 231. This unit has always had plenty of elk and mule deer. With the reduced tags, there should be less hunters in the woods and maybe less elk. Still have to get there and put in the miles to find out. Good luck...
We saw 3 big shooters the night before season and nothing after that. The country is very steep and rugged. There are several old burns there and that might be the place to go if you can get there. Good luck.
I bought a Tikka superlite in 300 WM last fall for an awesome price. I decided to upgrade it. I bought a take off 300 WM medium heavy barrel (D-18) like the ones from their widelads rifle. Happened to find a widelands stock and replaced the horrible buttpad with a limbsaver. Ordered a angled...
I have a Tikka T3X Veil Widelands in 300 WM. It is still a lightweight rifle and it shoots awesome. I'd use the muzzle brake for sure. Great trigger. Taking mine to Colorado this fall for elk.
