It's definitely an unforgettable experience to walk up on it knowing it's most likely a once in a lifetime experience and with everything the bison represents.
It wasn't really high on my bucket list either, in large part because the opportunities are so limited. Knowing what I know now, it would have been much higher on my list. My wife is a lot like yours and I think this has her pretty motivated to apply next year.
Thanks Chris. I'm really looking forward to hearing from Jason that he's got one down too. Everything I've heard says this has definitely been a tougher year.
I did. It's the first outfitted hunt I've ever done. I did 5 days solo and 7 days with the outfitter. You could definitely hunt them solo, but getting one out would be challenging to say the least. On this hunt you are paying for the outfitters packing abilities more than anything. The 5 days I...
It took a couple trips and 12 days but I was able to harvest a bull off the national forest. 1 shot at about 70 yards from a .338 Win Mag with a 250 grain Nosler Partition did the job and the bison went down on impact.
That's where I'm at. I'm currently using an Outdoorsmans medium tripod with an Outdoorsmans pan head as my primary packable tripod, as well as a few others. If the specs are right I'll likely get a set of the compact or standard CF legs and throw an Outdoorsman micro pan head that I've got...
Has anyone seen the ad in the current edition of Western Hunter for Outdoorsmans tripods? It's a picture of some carbon fiber and says 2022 in bold print. I'd say it's a pretty safe assumption they'll be releasing some carbon fiber tripods pretty soon. Does any one know anything more about them...
That's all fine and dandy until you're in rugged terrain and the gun being squared up to you doesn't mean much.
As to the OP's original post, I think for most shooters it just really isn't necessary. 300 yards is a long shot for a lot of guys, and the rifle being a few degrees out of level...
I'd 100% get the Tines Up/Phone Cam. You can move it between different optics in a matter of seconds. I switched from Phoneskope to the Tines Up and a while back and can't imagine switching back.
They're not being dogged. A seemingly accurate depiction of what happened is being presented and people are making up their minds accordingly. You seem to take issue with people fairly relaying their interactions with a company.
And rarely the way to keep customers. You keep feeling sorry for Weatherby though, even though it's 100% their actions that are hurting their brand. SMDH.
That's not how it works though. Even in best a best case scenario group size is going to be 2" at MPBR in hunting conditions. That would mean at MPBR your bullet could still hit anywhere from 3"-5" below your POA, potentially missing vitals if they were truly an 8" circle.
He laid out the facts in a fair manner without misrepresenting that this was outside the warranty period. If their reputation is being tarnished it is their own doing. Quoting policy is rarely the right way to handle a problem.
