+1 on the empty weight for a Kifaru. That said, I am now entering my 6th season with this bag, two-three 7-day solo hunts each season with at least one major packout every year, and except for one small hole, it shows no signs of wear and tear. It is absolutely solid.
Similar for me. I have a 1st unit bull that was a third choice draw so not my preferred hunt. New area, lots of pressure, etc. so not all that hopeful for success. Picked up a second rifle cow tag to go along with my same unit deer tag as an insurance toward filling the freezer. Saw a lot of...
You describe my Kimber 308 perfectly. First two shots, clover leaf. Third shot deviates a bit if I shoot three in rapid order. After that, just let it cool down. It is slightly heavier than the Ascent but I have found the "light rifle" shooting techniques translate well to my setup.
I would agree on Kimber finickiness - I have a 308 Classic Select. I can get 0.75 MOA with Federal Trophy Bonded Tips (165 gr) and 1 MOA with 180 Gr Partitions. It won't shoot any Hornady load less than 2 MOA. I recently tried the Terminal Ascents (175 gr) thinking they were close to the TBTs...
I find I end up drinking a lot more straight water, or water with an electrolyte booster. Elevation really dehydrates you. Morning coffee, water all day, evening coffee. The cider and hot chocolate would never get used in my meal plan. I would ditch the waffles and the pro meal thing and...
Same with my Kimber 308. My dial was spot on out to 600 yds on a 6HD. Chrono your rounds, on your rifle, at the elevation you expect to hunt. Look at average temps where/when you plan to hunt. The better the info in, the better the dial will perform for you.
Generally wherever it best fits. For me, it is midway up the pack and up against the stays and then I pack (working out from the "back") a few soft items and then my food bin/food so the heaviest items are centered on my back. In CO you have to have bear-proof storage and I ended up using a...
I haven't had any issues with mine. Strongest winds I have been in were in the 30-40 mph range with some higher gusts. I run the second level guys out when I know there is wind or snow in the forecast and that keeps it really stable.
I am in the same boat. My CO draw ended up being a third choice so that has messed up my plans a bit this year. I got a PP point which will help next year though. Agree with others, point creep must have been really bad this year.
I've noticed it takes about 24 hrs for the e-mail to follow-up. Likely triggered when CPW refreshes your account from "entered" to "accepted". But just guessing on that.
