Figure I could circle back on this and let everyone know what we decided and how it's worked out.
I bought the seek outside 8 man tipi with a stove and half nest. Pretty spendy buy ($2k) that I wish I could have found used. I justified the purchase as we used it on a 7 day late season elk...
@roravetz This was early archery season. I shot the bull on September 6. I seemed to be caught in a phase of the rut where the bulls weren't super fired up, but had small harems and were trying to protect them by pushing away.
When I closed the gap I didnt purposefully make any elk noise. My...
I went ahead and bought 100' of the 2.3mm stuff.
I'll find a use for it if it doesn't work for my main intention. Had never heard of it, but did some quick searching after the suggestion and everyone seems to love it.
Really appreciate the feedback
That looks like really good stuff. Unfortunately they seem to be sold out of most of that line. They do have 2.3mm bear line. Will that be too thin? Not worried about strength, but cutting myself with it. Thoughts?
Every year I lug around 100' of 550 paracord from walmart in my pack. 50' is used for hanging food and the other 50' is kept in my kill bag for hanging meat, etc.
It's heavy and bulky. I know this, but still punish myself out of convenience.
This year I'm changing. There are so many options...
Day 6:
I talked to some local outfitters near camp in the morning and explained my predicament. Bulls just didn’t seem to want to commit. A guide suggested that this time of year he prefers to skip the calls and just go right at them after locating. It was a strategy I hadn’t tried before, but...
Been saving this one for a while. Hope this helps spur some excitement with September just 27 days away.
This trip proved to be as special as I hoped it would be. I drew an awesome tag and this was going to be a family adventure, so that meant the wife and kids would be coming along for the...
Awesome pictures. You're doing this tag justice by enjoying all aspects of the hunt. I have no doubt your going to be successful. Thank you for continuing the updates and bringing us along for the ride.
@Dreamhunter#1 , do you have access to hunt elk on property that holds them, or would you go with an outfitter?
I lost my interest in applying for KY elk when I started to learn about how difficult it is to find places to hunt them without paying big $$. From what I've gathered, there is...
Thanks for sharing this. I've been very happy with my beartooths and am considering a pair of timberlines. Has anyone tested both? The bottom of my feet get pretty burned up after 3 days of hard hunting in the mountains. I attribute this to the fact that I live in Florida and have zero...
Results are out. Drew a general tag (5 points) and my wife pulled a cow/calf tag for the area I'm planning to hunt my general tag in.
I've always wanted to hunt Elk in Wyoming. Yeah baby.
I accidentally listed the wrong size. It's a L/XL. My wife has a M/L.
I'm 6'2 with a 34" waist and I have to tighten the waist belt down quite a bit. My guess is that it would fit you well.
