    How close is too close?

In my experience I haven’t found “warning shots” to be effective on cabin raiding black bears. Bean bags work, but they could have cared less about a round fired off over their head. That sow on meateater was the perfect example of a bluff charge. Head held high, moving slowly, basically...

School Me on Hunting In Grizz Country

I’d carry the .357 with a good 180 or 158 gr bullet that will penetrate deep. Depending on where you’re planning on going you might have a small chance of bumping into a bear or you might be dealing with them on a regular basis. I personally don’t buy the idea that you don’t have to worry about...

    Montana S/G/M results 2024

They didn’t, which just means a big dark timber 6 point bull is in my future.

6.5 PRC Christensen Arms Mesa Vs Browning X-bolt Hells canyon

I’ve noticed the same. The used rack is dominated by Christensen with quite a few Bergaras as well. They’re popular and the flavor of the month so I get why they’re being traded in often, but I wouldn’t buy one myself. My dad has a Hell’s Canyon in .308 that I wasn’t sure about when he bought...

    ****OFFICIAL****2024 SPRING BEAR THREAD

Grass isn’t even green yet and my local unit will probably close any minute. I saw this one up pretty high yesterday. Not what I’m looking for, but I love watching bears.

    New BF Good rich KO3

I wish they’d add some more tread depth to the BFGs too. That’s one thing I really like about the Falkens, which are my favorite tire I’ve used in the snow.

    Fly Tying/Fishing Thread

Had a phenomenal dry fly day today, but this one took a caddis emerger. This little river has some nice fish if you know where to look.

Stockys ultra carbon tikka vertical grip

JLS just got that maven. I don’t need a new scope but it looks pretty nice. I’ve been really impressed with my Trijicon credo lately too.

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

I like this a lot. I really hope FWP takes a serious look at it. Our current seasons aren’t sustainable and they haven’t been for a long time.

    Fly Tying/Fishing Thread

I agree completely, I do the same with a few common patterns to mix it up. Or I just fish a pink ray Charles and pretend they’re not taking it as an egg, which they definitely are.

    Fly Tying/Fishing Thread

There’s no need to blur our the squirmies and eggs, we won’t be offended… I wasn’t able to fish or hunt bears at all this week so I stocked up on a bunch of the small stuff that catches a ton of fish. Soft hackles, $3 dips, shop vacs, hares ear and pheasant tail varieties, and others. Threw in...

Need recommendations for low budget binos

I’m not a Vortex fan for my own uses, but those newer diamondback HDs are actually pretty damn decent for the price you can get them for. If I were in your shoes that’s probably what I would buy in some 8x42s. The warranty aspect means a little more with a kid using them as well.

Damn nice scope. If I hadn’t just bought a new Trijicon 1-6 it would be going home with me to replace a VX3.

    Centerfire rifles - your path

I’ve thought about that option as well. How do the 88 ELD-M hold up at higher velocity/close range impacts? Most of the hunting I’d do with that rifle would be under 350ish yards, and at closer ranges I’d think the 95 NBT would have an edge on penetration on larger animals.

    Centerfire rifles - your path

I often feel like I have too many rifles, but I use them all. I like shooting, and I enjoy being able to select the right tool for any job that I have. Most of what I have is pretty old fashioned. .223 - In an AR, BCM 16” lightweight upper on FN lower .22-250 - my first rifle, a Winchester...

    Muley Hunt Outfitter Help

I don’t know what $15,000 gets you in Alberta or Saskatchewan, and I’ll likely never find out, but if I had to go guided and had the money to burn that’s where I’d go.

Looking for paid access in 411 or 535

I would go to the N Bar ranch headquarters on Flatwillow Rd, knock on the door and introduce yourself, and maybe offer to fix fence or help out with other jobs around the ranch. They’re down to earth folks that should be happy to help you out. Hope you get a big old bull for cheap. Don’t shoot...

    Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chronograph

For those of you who bought them, any regrets? I desperately need a new chrono that actually works and isn’t a pain in the ass, and I’m about 99% sold on the garmin. I don’t want to spend the money, but if it really is that much better and easier to use than the competition I’ll bite the bullet.
