I’m admittedly pretty old fashioned, but I can’t imagine using a 4-32x56 scope to hunt with.
If anyone has any older Leupold 3-9 VX2s, 3.5-10 or 2.5-8 VX3s, or fixed 6s that they want to sell to upgrade to the latest and greatest, I’ll take them off your hands… I wish they still made the VX3...
Rifle weight and stock design make the biggest difference for me. My .338 WM is heavy enough that even with the old hard Ruger pad it’s tolerable. The Finnlight .300 WM comes back hard, but the McMillan with a good pad tamed the bite a little.
I’m looking at adding the RAS and maybe sumo springs on my truck, along with new front coilovers to lift 1-1.5” all the way around and handle a heavier trailer a little easier. I’m still debating upgrading coil springs and leaf pack while I’m at it. I get a headache researching this stuff to death.
I agree on the .22-250 AI over 22 Creedmoor, I like your style. Not sure on powders, other than I’ve always used IMR4064 with lighter bullets. I really want to make my old .22-250 into a 1-8 twist .22-250 AI, unless I end up going .243 instead.
Walmart king size cooling synthetic pillow cases. Exact same synthetic material, $9 for a two pack. They just don’t have draw strings. Tie a knot and loop some paracord around that. For that price it hurts a lot less when you inevitably rip them.
Good timing for this thread as I’m currently half assed looking at Hawkens. I think it would be a lot of fun to do some December hunting in the timber, especially for whitetails and elk. I don’t like that Montana added this season, but if you can’t beat them…
The factory seconds are a pretty good price, I wish they were offered in bulk. I’ve somewhat replenished my stash of 140 grain .277 Accubonds lately, but I bet the 130 grain solid base would do a great job on deer and elk too.
I had a black bear wind me from around 1000 yards one day. Went from head down munching grass to loping up over the ridge when the wind started blowing up canyon.
