Idaho Unit 18 Archery Elk
lotta elk will be right where they were during archery and lotta bugling in the beginning of the season. Only factor is early snow could push them down some, but they are right at snow line. Lotta elk in that unit. I have a hard time not seeing elk in almost every drainage -

I did learn if you are on the fence on a bull or think Ill shoot him tomorrow dont lol. I learned that almost every bull I saw one day I never turned up again. It was like a revolving door of bulls every day...new ones every morning. You could glass from the same spot every day and see new elk- HUNTNNW

I shot my bull just off the top of big ridge trail above the dairy fork road. Lotta elk in there too. I hiked up to the top to see the other side as there was not really any access in there due to snow and didnt see any elk in there, but lots of tracks.- HUNTNNW

If you follow the Dairy fork you will see "Side canyon" a intersection in the road it turns into...
If you follow the Dairy fork you will see "Side canyon" a intersection in the road it turns into 0070 road or Lake fork road. That road is gated and nobody walked it. Its a hard hunt to plan for as I was told some years you can drive the skyline on late hunt and others you cannot. There was 25" 2 mi up skyline on my hunt. I saw a hunt in 2020 where it was in the 60's on the late hunt- HUNTNNW
