    What i've seen recommended is to stand up straight with your arms at your sides. Make a fist with one hand and the height of your knuckles should be about right, maybe a touch higher than that. I'm 6'1" and that gives me about 32". The surface of my anvil is at 33" and feels good to me.

    Sounds like you've got a plan together. I'm not familiar with SW NM, so I can't help you with the rut question. My limited experience in South Central NM is that the rut has started during the tail end of the first archery season but is definitely better during second archery.

    I crunched the numbers on elk tags and somewhere around an $8 hike across the board would have more than made up the difference on that species. An $8 I would gladly pay, but if they want to saddle you "greedy NR's" with it, I suppose that's fine too. Just the cost of playing the game I guess.
