While NM has rules regarding handling and transport of animals from CWD areas, I found out last year how much their implementation sucks. I drew an archery elk tag in a CWD unit and called NMGF to find out where the testing locations were in case I was successful. I was told they don't have...
The properties with no elk on them during the hunts are where I see the benefit. If you give me a RO tag and there are no elk on my land during season (every year), there is little financial value in that tag if I try to sell it. That means that tag does little to offset the damages caused by...
You are correct. I see landowner tags as a beneficial tool NMGF can use to manage the elk population across all lands (public and private) and I think RO tags are primarily the way to go with that. I could see some benefit in a small number of UW tags under specific circumstances.
If Jim Bob is also a NM resident, do the elk not equally belong to him? Not trying to argue, it is a legitimate question I have. Parts of this conversation almost seem to paint all NM landowners as being in the same category as the Non-resident folks. Seems to me that the NM landowners who...
Drew a NM rifle deer tag in a unit that holds some big bucks, hunted 3/4 of the opening day then came down with Covid and missed the rest. Still managed to see a very big buck that my father in law missed on opening morning.
Before that, I drew my first choice archery elk tag. Started the...
You and me both Hank. I believe the bank will automatically report to the Feds if that $10,000+ is deposited into an account, but that's an easy one to bypass.
I'm with you. Tax fraud isn't the kind of stupid game I'm willing to play.
I'd imagine just like many other industries in NM, there's a chunk of landowners who deal in cash only and don't report this income.
Can't tell you how many times I've been offered a lower price on services if I paid cash and didn't get a receipt.
I was a bit puzzled because the NMGF Head Biologist suggested this change would result in fewer wounded animals because the animal may not show any indication they've been hit from the long distance ML shots. My first thought was that the rate of wounded animals might go up or remain unchanged...
I had reservations about too, but if that branch is able to 1) hit the oil pan of a lifted Jeep, 2) knock the plastic locking clip off and 3) open the valve I'm guessing I've got bigger issues.
It's a Jeep, I just assume there are metal shavings in all of my fluids!
Installed a Fumoto on my last truck and put one on my current Jeep. When it's time for an oil change, just open the valve and enjoy a beer while it drains out. No more oil-soaked arm when I am inevitably too slow pulling the drain plug away from the pan. If you happen to have something like a...
Sounds like it's time for some frontier justice. Order a package from amazon, ambush the driver, beat his ass, but don't give him your name so he can't file a report with the SO!
Just for reference, the NMGF Mission: "It is the mission of New Mexico’s Game and Fish Department: “To conserve, regulate, propagate and protect the wildlife and fish within the state of New Mexico using a flexible management system that ensures sustainable use for public food supply, recreation...
So move UW tags into the draw. It won't be much of a bump in draw odds but every little bit helps. Make ranch only tags non-transferrable or sellable to residents only. That won't make BHA and NMWF happy because they want those tags in the draw.
If we moved those 10,718 tags worth of...
But deer and pronghorn are private land only, right? Unless they have a ranch wide agreement for pronghorn, in which case I'm not sure how many tags they get but I don't think it is unlimited. I think private-only elk tags would be more accepted by the masses than the unit wide tags.
Unit 50 isn't on the list?!?!?! You're really missing out...
Welcome aboard. As others have said, look at the draw results and that should pretty closely reflect quality. Haven't hunted any of the units on your list so can't help you there.
When we lived in ABQ I had to call 911 one evening. I was sitting in the apartment when I heard two groups of guys yelling in the courtyard followed by the thunder of footsteps as one group ran up the stairs to confront the other group. They ran up to the floor above mine and I hear all hell...
We got over 2" of rain and a lot of it fell very quickly. Our street was a river with water halfway up our front yard. The people up the street are missing a few railroad ties from their yard after they got washed a few blocks down the street by me. Even after the downpour, we had a nice...
