Very good post and I agree. Let me expand my view.
Most public service jobs are a sacrifice of the present for the future. I.e. get paid crap today for a future pension that affords comfort. Or time, work more from September to May and be free from June to August. It is what it is.
I too...
Original question above. Answer is it depends on how much money you have.
This is confusing. If it isn't about the money, then the decision is easy. No? I don't think the responders get the impression you were independently wealthy, so they commented on the money. If it isn't about the money...
There are two things in general here I notice
1) your 40's (which I'm guessing @Keep'er Movin is) are your prime earning years. Taking a 40% pay cut is a kick in the nuts from that perspective. And many teachers are exempt from Social Security, so the pension and length of career are doubly...
I disagree, unless WI just randomly hires people with degrees as teachers, but I get your conflict with your current situation. Only you know what you can do from a financial perspective. Don't let responses here influence you, because they will be skewed by people who did something similar and...
I'm not asking him too. Teaching is a hard job, and I almost always vote in favor of paying more in taxes for higher salaries, for teachers and police. But no parent wants to hear "I did it for the pension and summers off". Most teachers in his position will at least lie and say they "did it for...
Sounds like you knew enough about teaching to go into it and stay there for 22 years. Societal changes seem to have made you want to check out of the whole thing and retire. If you can do it financially, do it. You don't need random opinions from others on the internet.
Yeah, everyone changes...
You have been a teacher for 22 years and make $70k? And you are thinking of taking a new job that pays practically a poverty wage of $40k? I don't even know where to start. You can hike, kayak, and fish in the summer. You chose your path. Hopefully you did it because you enjoy teaching. School...
On I-80 I felt like an antelope trying to cross the road. Even the trucks just about hit each other. On a positive note, given the number of trucks I saw overnighting in the truck stops and ramps, the economy is doing just fine.
? not sure what you mean.
Off topic, but I will say that after driving back home from a hunt for 1000 miles I hope they get self-driving semi trucks on the road ASAP because the quality of professional driving is going into the garbage fast.
Don't listen to 🤡
More info on the future direction of EV batteries. Hope they reach their goals.

Oh yeah, totally different subjects. No way I'm jumping into a debate on whether a 4.5yo MD buck's sperm is better at impregnating a doe than a 2.5yo MD buck's. Seems like rabbit hole I don't want to go down and will let the internet experts take care of that. ;)
it doesn't seem to matter much...
The season ends well before the rut (Nov 3 this year) for the tag I got. Maybe that is his point. Not sure. This would support the proposal put forth to end MD buck hunting before they get stupid.
Change is inevitable and people fight it the whole way. Even culture changes. Opportunity and dirt-cheap tags are a cultural norm. A change in that would help.
I don't think poaching is the culture in Montana, but it happens. We need to stop directing anger at other groups and start pointing...
