Welcome! I grew up in Northern California, but I didn't really hunt much growing up. I got started as an adult after leaving the state. Good luck this season!
I asked some guys I know in that community about the switch. It seems they are kind of neutral about the 6.5. A couple told me they would rather move the .300 Norma. Apparently SOCOM did just buy a small number of rifles chambered in .300 PRC. It will be interesting to see what they settle on...
Got my first deer ever yesterday morning with that doe. Stayed in the stand and shot my first buck an hour later when I rattled him in. Broke both G4s fighting. It was an awesome day here in Tennessee.
well, there you said it. Is there a huge difference? Not really. But it will make a difference. And with the BC advantage also going to the 6.5, that means it will also handle wind better. That doesn't matter much inside of 500 or so yards, but I plan on shooting it a lot further than that at...
It's not just the speed and size of the bullet that are enticing. The BC on the 6.5 is superior to completable .270 bullets, with the exception of some uncommon 170 grain projectiles in existence.
Does anyone have any experience they may have hunting with the 6.5 PRC? I'm thinking about getting a rifle chambered for it, and just wanted to get an idea what people think of it. On paper it sounds great.
Thanks for the thoughtful response! All of your points are definitely things I will consider. And just so my intention is clear, I just want to say that I have no desire to shoot an animal 800 to 1000 yards away. I would just like the option to confidently put a lethal shot on an animal out to...
I've used chassis stocks before, my only worry is the weight. The chassis rifles I've used would not be my first choice for hauling up and down mountains for a week. I can tape a foam pad down to adjust comb height if I need. LOP is a different story, although I bet I can find some aftermarket...
Thanks for the advice, but I guess I should have added some information about my experience in my original post. I am a fairly experienced shooter, but new hunter. I started archery hunting last year, and I've been learning something new every time I'm out in the woods. I enjoy the challenge of...
I'm looking into getting my first hunting rifle when I get a bonus from work next year. I want something that I can do some long range shooting with, and also take elk and deer hunting.
I'm currently looking at the Browning Hells Canyon LR and the Howa's 1500 Randy Newberg edition. I'm wanting...
I grew up out west in the Sierra Nevadas of California, and have spent a bit of time in Utah as well, but I didn't grow up hunting. A couple years ago I got stationed in Tennessee with the military and last year I started hunting turkey and whitetail. I've enjoyed the abundant hunting...
