Colorado 1st rifle: Elk transition from archery to rifle season. Wife's first hunt

Hi all, I had a fun but "unsuccessful" Colorado archery season, and now preparing for my wife's first rifle elk hunt in unit 14. I hunted quite a few days in unit 14 during archery season and got into elk a couple of times; these elk seemed to relocate later in the month, I am assuming due to...

    RMEF Land

Any advice if the RMEF conservation project properties get a lot of attention? I am considering hunting a RMEF BLM project area that looks quite promising, but will focus on adjacent BLM if they usually receive extra pressure. Thanks!

Things I Wish I'd known about Elk Hunting

I would agree with this; however, you are a Clemson fan and your insight is void to an Ohio State alumni

    Colorado 1st Rifle 2020

I agree with wllm as above. Colorado is ridiculously crowded with recreators already this summer and anticipate this to continue well into the hunting season. However, if you get away from the popular trails, campgrounds and attractions you will be able to find a spot; make sure you have plenty...

    Mid-day water hole setup: Colorado

Thanks Seth, I currently have a couple of cameras out to determine their approaches. Trying to determine my general mid-day setups for the other water holes or random ones that I may come across. I was planning to construct some rough/natural blinds around the areas, do you think this is...

    Mid-day water hole setup: Colorado

Another water hole question, and I did use the search option.... As everyone knows most of the west is dry, including my area. However, I have identified a few secluded water holes in the timber that I plan to sit the majority of the day during early season. I have read that the water holes get...

Fire Impact on Colorado Hunting Pressure

I think it will cause more disruption than just the units with fire. Even in Steamboat/the flat tops we have thick smoke from the fires; I am assuming this will continue into archery season. I can't imagine coming from flat land and dealing with the smoke conditions while acclimating to the...

    CO Unit 15, first rifle.

Pretty limited on hunting gear in Steamboat, but Straightline sports has quality stuff as far as clothing and accessories. Plenty of places for groceries, and walmart has a decent supply of outdoors gear if you get in a pinch. Probably best to stock up on items before heading into the mountains.

Who else got lucky this morning?

2 out of 4....... 2 rifle cow tags in 2nd and 3rd season. The sad loss was the 2nd season deer tag I had in my cart, but someone had a faster payment than me :(

Archery elk harvests: morning, mid-day, or evening?

Thanks for all of the thoughts! It looks like I will be having very many early mornings this fall and make that a priority. I am sure I will also hunt many evenings, but this helps with my debate of whether to focus on morning or evening hunts.

Archery elk harvests: morning, mid-day, or evening?

Good point, and at this point I doubt I would trust any government data. I was curious if there were any independent studies such as the Starkey project, etc

Archery elk harvests: morning, mid-day, or evening?

Any statistics on if a majority of elk are harvested during archery are harvested during the morning, mid-day, or evening? I would be happy to hear about your personal results as well. I plan to hunt nearly every day in September, taking a break from my job, and wondering what time of the day...

    2020 OTC Elk Hunting Pressure

I also wonder if OTC will be limited to residents in some states if COVID continues to increase.

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Buying the dips. Tech has run up too much for me..... However, banks are quite appealing and I have been adding to that position; long term hold.

Pre-rut best for CO archery cow?

My uncle is planning a trip to visit me and archery elk hunt together in September for one week. I am assuming the most successful time for archery cow elk (OTC cow tag) would be during the pre-rut period? I am planning to suggest a time just after Labor Day? I appreciate the input and ideas.

Colorado 11/211 3rd rifle- Wife's first mule deer tag

Hi all, Fairly new to western hunting and a novice at mule deer. My wife took her hunter's education this winter and drew a 3rd season rifle deer in 11/211. Any tips on what terrain to focus on while scouting this summer? Also if anyone has any general advice on this unit I would appreciate it.

    Rabbit/Hare SWA Colorado

Any luck in responses? I relocated to Steamboat Springs and am looking for some small game opportunities around here when rifle season ends, and between 3rd and 4th season. New to small game in the West. Do you typically focus on open BLM or in higher pine/NF habitat?

Volunteering for meat hauling around Steamboat, CO

I'd be happy to help, especially for an Ohio guy. I just moved from Columbus, and grew up around Bucyrus. Keep me posted on your plans and I'd be happy to help. I have a couple of deer points to use also, so I'll be exploring my options.
