I’m in Queensland, on the east coast.
No rain on the forecasts for at least the next month or so. Some towns have enough water to last until December only, then they will need to truck it in.
We’re not out of our winter (fall) yet and already the bushfires have started. This one is on a small island about half hour from my place - A controlled burn that has got out of control. 2 days in and it’s still not under control. The area it’s burning in is uninhabited and authorities have...
Destructive to the max. There was a community in a remote area living in fear - too afraid to go outside. The camels had been attracted to the water. They were ripping air con units off sides of houses, tearing taps out of ground chasing moisture - basically being a right nuisance.
They are...
I’m yet to hunt them here in Oz but have several mates that have. We have many hundreds of thousands of them and all are declared as a feral / introduced species.
Being nomadic, you need to cover a lot of ground with the vehicles etc to loacate herds. The terrain is generally desert with low...
A couple of years back, I’d planned a big trip to northern part of Australia. We had a large cattle station (ranch) that wanted us to cull every donkey and camel we could. Loaded up a pile of ammo for the 416Ruger, hoping to blood it for the mission. 2000 miles behind the wheel to discover I...
Definitely those RV’s can be an issue here. At the front of every good traffic jam is either a caravan or an RV. :giggle: They must have the suitable license for the category of vehicle here. A bus size vehicle will require the same license as a heavy vehicle truck driver.
Ben - Keep it left...
Interestingly I did some testing last week while tuning the 125gn viper tricks to my bow. I’ve been a 2 blade man for ever BUT the Viper tricks were penetrating at least 10 inches further than the 2 blades I use.
Doing one of my western trips this week. Plenty of these big rigs (road trains) on the road transporting fodder further south. Normally 3 trailer but I regularly see 4 and have seen one iron ore truck with 6 trailers. Overtaking takes needs plenty of room up front - very handy having a UHF radio...
2 main diseases we have are:
Sparagnosis
Leptospirosis - this is the main one we see. It was isolated to mainly northern populations BUT floods etc have spread it far and wide.
We shoot them and leave them where they lay. If I’m cutting tusks etc out, I carry a small bottle hand sanitiser in my...
