    New Mobile Office

Not a hunting rig but a mobile office. Picked it up this week. Isuzu MUX - they are a 4cyl intercooled turbo diesel. I went a 4x4 wagon this time, purely for the comfort of the coil sprung rear. I do around 40 - 50k miles per year, so comfort is important. I’ve found the Isuzu‘s to be very...

Break open your first aid kits for me

2 x snake bandages are probably the only thing in my small pack, right beside the PLB. I’ve got the med kit in the car or buggy with all the bits and pieces. I generally have a small UHF.

    Elk in Estes Park

That is so cool. The garden maintenance folks would have a secure job.

Aussies in Montana (long & pic heavy)

We all loved the Elk. We had several meals with it. I liken it too grass fed cow. I bet if I fed it to folks here they couldn’t tell the difference. The Antelope was a different story - I could take it or leave it. Very strong herby flavour to it, the one we ate anyway.

Aussies in Montana (long & pic heavy)

It was a trip of a lifetime for sure. What an excellent experience. The outfitter and his crew were #1. No hunting In my state BUT if you have a letter from a primary producer / farmer saying you are allowed to control feral animals, it’s possible. A heap of travel restrictions Still in place...

Aussies in Montana (long & pic heavy)

Over lunch the next day, the guides discussed options for me. On another lease “just down the road” the guys had set up a hay bale blind, on an large, centre pivot alfalfa field. Here, there were probably a hundred or so Pronghorn. The trick would be to get them to the blind. I followed Doug...

Aussies in Montana (long & pic heavy)

Day 3 and the talk over dinner the previous night was that we had “weather” coming in. The word was that the colder weather would get the elk more active. It was definitely colder this morning, with a little ice on the windscreen. I was still giving myself upper cuts for yesterdays screw up...

Aussies in Montana (long & pic heavy)

While I’m stuck “working” from home, I thought I’d recount my September 2019 Elk hunt in Montana, so bear with me: After nearly 12 months of planning, I met up with my 2 Aussie hunting mates Robbo and Graham, in San Francisco Airport, for the start of our Montana adventure. A few more hours on...

    feral cat

In the bush they are shoot on sight BUT I use the trap at home (suburbia) Anything that comes in my yard is fair game - and it’s 100% legal here, as long as I treat the trapped cat humanely. I take the trap, with cat in it, to the local animal shelter. They transfer it to there cage or holding...

    OZcut Broadheads

Yeh mate these are pretty popular broadhead here. VERY strong. I would say that probably 90% of aussie bowhunters chasing big hogs, use a 2 blade head.

That is so cool - thanks for posting that.

    feral cat

Honey soy chicken wings are like crack for cats. A tip for putting food in the trap - put a small saucer of water down first and put food bowl in saucer - stops ants getting to food.

    Fixed 2 blade broadheads

If you can get your hands on Northerns you won’t be disappointed. Killed plenty of big hogs here in Oz. I mainly used the 125gn but used the 170gn a couple of years ago for my water buffalo and scrub bull.

Massive 488 pound feral hog shot, killed in Texas

That’s what we would call a good sized big one.

    Draws & Water Storage

The drop slide for 12v 60 litre fridge is just magic for my short legs. I’ve made up some clip on sections that go on top of the draws when they are extended, turning them into tables. Great for putting the little gas cooker on, having a cold beer or three. Myself and a couple of mates have...

    Draws & Water Storage

Put some ARB storage draws in ute (utility) over the weekend. Been meaning to do this mod for a while - helps to keep things where they are meant to be when it gets rough. Also added a 65 litre water tank for the remote trips I do. It’s already plumbed with small pump, just have to hook it to...

    No Whitetail here!

Nice, very nice AND very tasty too. Our Fallow rut is usually around mid April but who knows what will be in store this year with the big drought. Farmers have been poisoning huge numbers.

Archery for idiot - help needed

Hey Mate. I did a lot of testing before my elk hunt last year. I’m shooting samr poundage and draw length to yourself. I was previously using pile drivers but they were getting hard to find. I settled on the Easton Axis 5mm shafts cut to 29”, 3 x 3” vane and 125gn Viper Trick broadhead up front...
