They had to get a bigger hat to hold all the new apps this year . Now they're having trouble reaching into that bigger hat to draw the winning apps...
Last year, we knew the results on 28 FEB. On the site, it says the draw is currently underway. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but I'm hoping it means I can start scouting soon (with fishing pole along - great fishing in N AZ during the summer!).
Pflueger President attached to a 6'6" Ugly Stick with fluorocarbon line - 6lb test. Bass Pro was selling the Pflueger President XT Limited Edition for $49 (if you can find one in inventory) when I picked it up. The Ugly Stick is around $39. fluorocarbon line is around $12-$14 for 250'. And you...
Darn Tough sox - awesome! The warranty is the best in the industry. I returned a pair of heavy weight boot socks and they e-mailed me a coupon to use in their online store. I do own some Kuiu gear and it is excellent. I only have one pair of pants and a jacket. The rest of my stay-warm gear is...
Baselayers and waterproof / windproof outer layers, good quality merino wool socks. I grew up in the west (Colorado, Arizona, Utah) and I've seen the weather change drastically from day to day. Being a prior Marine, you probably have considered these already, but my 2 cents... +1 on the locator...
I have a little different experience with what "they" say will or won't work. My Kentucky rifle will drill nice round holes in the target out to 100 yds, using 320gr MaxiBalls (around 2" groups). 33.5" barrel, twist is 1:66, so it's allegedly not supposed to stabilize conical bullets but it does...
+1 for BH 209 - great stuff!. For bullets, try the THOR 300 and 250 gr, full bore, copper. They're available at Muzzle-loaders.com right now. Matched with the BH209 you have a great combo for anything in N America. Also, the Federal B.O.R. 350gr should shoot really well out of that Optima.
Are you planning to shoot a traditional or a modern in-line muzzle loader? The answer to that will determine a more accurate assessment questions 1-5. Not trying to be a smart ass, but there is a pretty wide variance in the approach to preparing for each. That said, 1. I haven't seen a...
I've also had good success with the Federal B.O.R. in 350gr (all lead) - something else to try. They also make a 270gr all copper bullet (next on my list to try).
With the range that bad boy will shoot, it wouldn't hurt to have a decent quality 3-9x40. I'm shooting a Strikerfire LDR with a Vortex 4-12x40 and it's nice to have that little extra optic power out there. I know you didn't ask about powder and bullets, but I just got back from shooting this...
Maybe try the 150gr TTSX if you want just a little more weight and negligible loss of velocity. That is, if you can find any...My Browning A Bolt II loves those.
