My son and I (NR) have applied for 700, now 007, for 3yrs running and not been drawn. We had 3 points prior to the application this year, that jumps us up to 80+% draw odds at this point but I'm still not packing a bag until I see SUCCESSFUL on the draw page?!
I drew my MT general BG combo this year as well, drew it last year so had 0 points but did buy the PP option so if I understand the process I had one PP going in.
This year should be interesting. My previous elk hunts have been all been DIY truck camp/wall tent base camp type hunts. This year...
Yeah, we ran in to a game warden there once when we bought unit 30 tags as leftovers. She laughed at us when we told her we were hunting pronghorn on public land there.
Im sure private thru an outfitter would be great. Lots of antelope outfitters in WY on private in 0-1point units.
If you’ve got private land to hunt, in a second choice unit build points. If you got lucky pulling this as a second, then apply as first.
If you do build 6-7 or more points you can hunt some pretty good units and have a crack at a big goat.
Elkrchr: Thanks for pointing me to your write-up. I have seen that one before ad enjoyed looking thru it again, guys like yourself who have done such great write ups have certainly help fuel my fire for this trip. I', going there for a black tailed deer but I'd sure like to get a few sea ducks...
Thanks everyone, great info. I’ve got a great pair of Lowa boots, i’ll make sure to waterproof them well and Mr. Newberg here sold me on trekking poles last year as well. My 1st deer, i’ll probably not be too picky, the first mature deer will come home with me. After that I’m interested in a...
I’ve read quite that comment about Grundens and HH gear a few times, but I just can’t imagine hiking several miles and 1000’ in elevation with a pack and gun on in that stuff? I think I’d be so full of sweat that rain gear would have been pointless in the end? Does that stuff somehow breathe...
A group of us have booked a trip with Alaskan Coastal Marine for the 3rd week in October this year, our general hunting area will be the southern most tip of the island in and around the Alitak bay area.
I know we will be early for the rut, but I am curious if anyone here has been deer hunting...
Thanks for everyone’s input, we’ve researched the area enough and have friends that have been hunting the area for years so we’re going to give it a shot expecting that here, like everywhere with a little effort, hikes in and out in the dark etc.. we can get away from some of the pressure and...
Two of us are heading out to the Southern gravellies for rifle elk opener. I know it’s a pretty heavily hunted area, and yes, we do know about the gentleman that was mauled by a bear near Ennis, in fact near as I can tell from the story he was mauled right on one of the ridges we plan to walk...
