Members,
A buddy and I are going to pull a WY elk tag in 2017. We have 1 less than max points. Looking at going guided, and prefer a backcountry hunt vs. a lodge-based hunt, but we can be convinced otherwise. Archery is definitely preferred. With the special elk price and cost of...
If anyone is willing to share some Intel for two guys with cow tags for the last 3 days of the season, I wouldn't complain.
I promise good karma and a favor owed in return, plus a return of any Intel I can offer.

I should add that I never saw a single hunter, other than an illegal motorcycle driver, off the road the entire time I hunted. Same with my brother. Lots of road hunters, but no one back in the boonies.
Probably true in most units, but that surprised me.
After looking over well over 100 bucks, a lot of which were dinks, my brother and I both tagged out the past two days.
Sunday morning my brother did a 7 mile loop to the south, and I did a loop about the same length to the north of the road we drove in on. I saw 13 bucks on that loop, and my...
Trucker,
I have seen that drop tine buck twice. Once from the highway and once while driving in on one of the CMR roads. He tempted me for a second too.
New update. 3 more days of hunting in the past 9 days. Another 20 or so different 145-165 class bucks passed up. Still haven't seen anything yet in that 180 range I have been hoping for.
Glad I ran into FWP this weekend. I have to imagine some of the people I am seeing do not have the tag...
As an update on this tag, I logged 13.2 miles hiking this weekend. Passed 13 bucks within 300 yards. 6 were 4-pts in the 140-155 range. One was a heavy, deep forked 4-pt buck that I would guess in the 165 range. I'm hoping that I don't regret passing him.
I'll be back in mid-Nov when the...
Not quite the quality of bucks as this WY monster from 2011, but I finally have enough points to get back to the WY unit next year and hope to have another great time.
After last year's goat I had my work cut out for me on matching the quality of the hunt and the buck.
Not much to tell other than I had about 70 lopes come by my blind over two days and smoked a whopper from 25 yards with the Hoyt.
Nice way to relax after a 6 day Mountain Goat hunt.

I hunted it for archery elk and mule deer rifle in the past, tagging out on great animals both times. PM me with any questions you have, and I'll do my best to help you out.

I was lucky enough to get him on my first full day of hunting, and then spent the next 5 trying to get my brother a bull. I was also lucky enough to get a second crack at this guy, as I did not have time to range him and my guess of 40 yards was short. He gave me a second opportunity and the...
