My point exactly as far as managing elk. The booth ranch is in 702 but you can not block areas together and expect to manage elk. Also these big ranches do not provide any public access it’s pay to play so where do you think the majority go?
I have no doubt after having talked to a region seven field biologists (Mr. Devore) that all the elk counted outside of the Custer are counted in population totals. Even elk living 100 miles away on the Booth ranch as this was mentioned saying we have a run away elk problem in region 704! There...
I would have to agree that fwp will have to update the elk management plan per unit or at least region as well as change season structure and quota numbers. I personally would be all right hunting every few years for elk if I could have a quality hunt and I’m not just talking about trophy...
Thanks for all the comments! Truly was one of the more fun hunts I’ve been on in years. These little deer are a bugger to try and spot and glassing off a tripod is a must. I feel we got incredibly lucky finding the two we did. We lucked out with the colder weather and the bucks were sparing and...
Well got back from Arizona on my first coues experience and had a blast. Might be something I have to do every few years. Beside the 20 hours in a pickup everything went well and me and my buddy had some success!
Right on I leave thanksgiving morning for az hoping to get my first one and hoping it’s as nice as those two! If you wouldn’t mind sending me a message on any pointers that could help I’m all ears. Congrats

Montana, where we manage large predators as trophy big game animals, and mule deer as rodents.
Better get them while the getting is good.
Too late! It’s not any good!
Buy once cry once you’ll have them for life and an excellent warranty. Plus if you ever get in a bind the re sale isn’t bad either. I have a spotter and two pairs of binos and have never been disappointed.
Another question is it says that a negative tested animal can be removed from said zone but where do you get it tested? I was mainly posting so that hunters as conservationists will be aware there are some changes coming to this area and we all need to be aware and do our part.
Anybody read the second page in the regs and see the rules for hunting from Ashland to Broadus and south to Wyoming? I’m curious where fwp is going to get funds to enforce this zone and what it’s going to do to people hunting there?
Until MT fwp decides to manage mule deer for quality and I mean quality as a hunt and in population age class instead of hunter opportunity nothing will change. Just my two cents.
