I guess if it turns out to be heavy with bear in the locations I want to hunt we will probably pull the pin and spend a few days in some other country. The only other country I am familiar with out there is just over the mountain in Madison where I have been up Papoose and Indian. Not sure...
Haha yeah we found a few of those stations. The signs in there are pretty straight forward, enough to send chills down your back. I guess it doesnt bother me a whole lot, just changes a little bit how I hunt is all. Love the area, shooting an elk is only part of the adventure for me. Being...
I will be giving Taylor a try for archery this year. I have been out there a handful of times during rifle season and the spring. I have been in touch with the local biologist and warden for the area. Just wondering if anyone has any other information I could use when I am out there this...
Thanks yeah I peeked on there today and seen there was 6000+ OTC tags still available. I know the Sawtooth sells quickly but I just have other irons in the fire that wont allow me to go for those. I am trying to decide between 29, 30 or 48.
haha nice! This would be my first trip of 2 already. I head to Montana for rifle this year. A 3rd trip would give me all sorts of problems here on the home front with the better half.
I am hoping to chase elk in Idaho this year and have had my mind set on 30 for awhile now but I initially really liked 48 as well. I am second guessing some things about 30 though. I have recently read a lot about being a narrow unit and most of the elk tend to stay over on the montana side...
I read an article by Jordan Breshear saying that Idaho sold out of their OTC elk and deer last year. I was wondering if June 22nd is long to wait to risk not getting a tag? I am waiting on the Wyoming deer draw results (June 21st) as if we dont draw there then we planned on going to chase Elk...
I carry both as well. Doesn't take a whole lot of wind to make your spray be a poor choice. I always have rifle hunted in Griz areas this year will be my first for archery. That is going to put me on my toes a little more. Horses, pistol and spray makes me feel a bit more comfortable in bear...
I ran RIP elites with SS outserts and they very nice work. I felt like I was underspined with the SS on a 340 with them and I decided with getting a new bow I wanted to give those VAP tko elites a try with the SS outserts. Shooting 80yds with significant wind I dont need to compensate at all...
What about Browning xbolt western hunter. If you want to steer away from stainless or cerakote you should easily reach that price range for a really good gun. 300win mag.
That is funny that on facebook under region 7 they announced it? You would of thought being registered on the fwp email updates that would be the first place you would hear the news???
My dads first elk. Doing it his way, my brother and I were fortunate to be within yelling distance when it all went down. We were in a full out sprint to get to him with pure excitement. I have only seen my dad that excited a few times. What a memory and a trip.
Ohio did you find a bow? Just seen this post. I have both carbon and aluminum riser defiant turbos. First started out with the regular defiant turbo, tried not to buy into the carbon game as I really do like the Hoyts in aluminum but a mishap happened very close to my trip a year ago and I...
2 years into Victory VAP TKO's with the stainless insert. Great arrow, strong, wont bend on ya, takes alot to break them. Never seen an arrow duck wind like it either. I never plan on changing from this arrow.
I have 2 spotters both Leupold, one Ventana 15-45x60 and one Gold Ring HD 12-40x60. I carry Leupold 10x50's non HD Mojaves and I love these. I have yet to look through another pair of binocs that would ever justify me from spending above 1g. Ive picked apart of hillside with those much better...
Its less than a pound in comparison to the Speed. I might not be the lightest set up but I am all for cutting ounces if I can. Thanks for your input though. I cant wait to put some rounds through!
That is a sweet looking rifle! I ended up going with Talley as well. Thanks for all the recommendations. I called Talley, good people, they matched me up with mediums as well.
A lot of good info for you to start out with so far on here. I am excited for you guys, it was just a handful of years ago when I was doing the same thing for my dad and my brother. All the districts you listed will have a pile of elk in them. Some are butted up next to WMA's which can hold a...
Just picked up my new Hells Canyon. Scope and rings are in the mail. Now I am just curious of some good rounds to put through the gun. I plan to try a few elk loads to see what the gun likes the best. I am for sure getting the Nosler ABLR 190gr. I have some questions regarding Double Tap...
I just ordered my Xbolt Hell's Canyon Long Range 300WM today! My scope should be coming soon too. Next I am looking at scope mounts. Any good recommendations out there? I am looking at Talley mounts as the favorite right now.
Also with a 44mm objective any one know what height I should go...
