I just put a preferred #2 on a savage and I would stick with a #2. It's definitely a sporter barrel contour. I do like a little more weight on my barrels though, pencil thin barrels can be difficult to shoot.
I had it build for hunting primarily in AZ and NM which don't allow you to use smokeless powder. I have shot a couple rounds with smokeless just because I had a bunch of H322 laying around. I would prefer smokeless, use less powder, cleaner and faster then bh209.
I read the article, pretty close to the conclusion I came up with. I hunt coues deer every year and where ever I can pull an elk tag. The shot opportunities are usually longer in the areas I hunt. The higher bc bullets available to handloading 7 mag is why I have one and the velocity numbers...
In my kimber 280AI with a pencil thin barrel the 143 HH and rl26 with 215m primers did the trick for me. That rifle didnt like the 145 lrx no matter what I did with it.
I don't have a 7wsm but I have the other three standard wsm cartridges. I would play with h4831sc and the 162 eldx. The rl22 will beat it velocity but I have had good results with h4831sc in my 270wsm. Also I have had good success with RL17 in my wsms if you have any available.
I throw the rib roll in the crock pot with whatever seasonings and make taco meat out of it. For how much time I spend cutting one out, I feel better eating it as a meal then adding it to the grind pile.
Archery is the best way to hunt them in my opinion. But any centerfire rifle will work. I have taken them with .223 up to .270 plus muzzleloader and archery. They don't have the greatest eyesight but they have a good sense of smell. Just play the wind and you will be just fine. Wife and I snuck...
Probably a glitch in the portal system, call them and they will straighten it all out. Like prhunter said they update the bonus points before they release the draw results for each of the draws. They update the bonus points three times a year.
Nothin wrong with some magnification, as long as you got some play on the lower end. I shot my elk this year at 48 yard with a 4.5-30 scope. Just keep it on the lowest magnification that you need. My March 2.5-25x52 scope is my favorite scope, has everything covered from close range to really...
My wife has the same schedule, I would look at coues hunts in AZ. There are rifle hunts in Dec which take some points to draw but there is a hunt in Thanksgving week that is pretty easy to draw. If you prefer archery then it is OTC for most units in Dec and Jan.
Goat season starts Aug 1 in...
No, I haven't spent much time in 6B much less hunting javelina up there. Just plenty of javelina in the border units to bother heading up there to look for em.
Yes. In your time frame you are pretty much limited to small game.
After looking in the regs closely, there is the OTC javelina open in 5A and other units that are the northern edge of their habitat. I have never seen javelina out of the desert habitat. I have heard of them in the pines but...
I was quick enough to pick up a returned first season tag in Colorado this year after burning my points last year on a different first season tag. The elk were still bugling last year, so I was excited for this hunt again. I had never been to this unit, but it looked fairly good on the map...
