    Have you looked into the Swaro Z3 line? They have a 4-12x50, since you want a little more power. I am not familiar with your colt light rifle but my Z3 has no problem with bolt throw on a kimber hunter and talley lows. I see SFC beat me to it.

    What's the longest distance you would hike for an elk?

    I have done 4 miles with 2K feet elevation gain. Took me 2.5 days solo, probably the farthest I will go. Unless I see a bull just over the ridge.

    257 AI and Barnes 100 TTSX

    I achieved that velocity in a standard bob and a 22" barrel with RL-17. I was using 100 grs Scirocco 2, velocity was there but accuracy was lacking. Settled with H4350. Rl-17 or 16 should get you there, no experience with 26 or AR-comp in standard short cartridge.
