The photography on this thread is astounding.
I've swapped setups quite a bit over the years (fairly new to hunting, but I'm a longtime backpacker). You can get a heck of a lot done with a Canon Rebel and a Go Pro if you get creative with mounting solutions. Look forward to getting a few ideas...
Manual focus is a feature I won't give up. Auto focus is nice for portraits, but often fails when taking a picture of something dark (try to get a camera to focus on a black bear, it can't get the contrast to resolve the picture).
I agree with the folks who say that the budget might be a bit...
I agree with the PCP group. I own a 25 caliber FX Impact with a Hawke scope, the whole set up is more expensive than all my hunting rifles, and it's worth it. I live in major ground squirrel country, without that gun I would not have a garden. It's cheaper (and more legal if you are in a...
Zoom is where you are losing your budget in my opinion. Most cameras these days use optics for most of the zoom capacity and then up the number by using digital zooming. Unfortunatly the digital zooming looks like garbage unless you have VERY high resolution. Like good binos, the power of the...
That's a good call as well. Acids tend to break down that connective tissue the same way low heat and moisture will. Got a favorite prep would you like share?
Check out my stroganoff recipe if you want some further inspiration. Basically any prep that requires a pulled meat is going to be pretty killer.
As to the various diseases for rabbits/hares Tularemia is always a threat, but one that can be handled via careful handling of the animals during...
UPDATE:
Yesterday we put in an order for a Syren Elos D2 20 guage. They will shave off a half an inch of LOP at the factory. They also will install an auto safety. So that should check all her requirement boxes. It's 6 weeks out, but I'll pass along her thoughts on the gun in case anyone else...
Western Grey Squirrels, which are delicious by the way. We have a crapload of California Ground squirrels, but I would not be able to tell you about their edibility.
It's funny, my area (Oregon) does not have a spring squirrel season per se. However, it does have a part of one unit that is never closed and has no bag limit. I talked to the ODFW about that and they said it was set up back in the 70's because the timber companies were getting hammered by an...
That's kind of my philosophy at this point. She just wanted guidance from me as far as avoiding a really poor fit. She is going to grab the Syren Elos D2 in 20 gauge. I'll let you all know if it fits the bill.
If you shoot iron sights than the sight picture of a compound bow will translate for you. Learning how to shoot consistently will help you do the same with archery, though the two disciplines are VERY different.
Rule 1: Your bow has to fit you or it will shoot like crap. Go to your local pro...
Funny, we have been looking at the Syrens. The Elos D2 in particular caught her eye. I remeasured her LOP as opposed to just measuring her gun, she is about 13.25", the Syrens are a bit long, but I might be able to get it cut down at the factory for something so small. If not, a 12mm recoil pad...
The O/U is non negotiable to her, she likes the methodical way they operate and the safety of being able to carry the gun safely open in the field. I'd agree with you on the gas operated auto, but that action is not for her.
As to the 20 gauge, she is way more open to that. Good to know they...
Ugh.
So I got my wife a Franchi Instinct last year on clearance before the Instinct line split into several different sub models. We also got it shortened to her absurdly short LOP of 12.5" and installed a Gracoil on it. She now love turkey hunting, but this gun has given her grief from word...
I have target sequences that I run through for shotguns, rifles, and of course bows. One tip I remember from a competitive pistol shooter was something to the effect of "if you do it the same way every time, all you have to remember is the first step, and your training will take over from...
Kuiu makes a good pack system as well. I have the Icon Pro 2300 with the beefier of the two suspensions. It has handled some seriously rough country so far and is the most comfortable pack I have ever worn (new hunter, longtime backpacker). What sold me on that one was the ability to easily and...
Good enough that I kinda wish I would have thought of it before you. My grandma is a big fan of gnocchi, so I think I might try it out with her and report back.
Yeah, I'd parboil em first before the live coals treatment. I opened mine up to take the heart and liver, you can make some serious...
