Link to the Bill
I really do believe that anti-hunting/trapping groups aim to take away any sort of traditional subsistence option from us one small piece at a time. While the argument for this bill appears to be aimed at commercial fur raising, the nature of the bill would also hit fur...
It can be hard to be the voice of reason, because you often get over-talked by the unreasonable. Leaving the debate is not an option though because we need voices of dissent against lunacy.
We do win though, look at the bear ban in California that recently got pulled off of the docket. That...
I'll admit that a deep dark side of me really approves of this dish. Might I only suggest making your own tortilla's with lard? I only suggest this because it will really up the crispiness of the whole thing while also adding some chewy mouthfeel.
I'm making this as soon as I can.
I second the gauze with clotting agent comment. I actually have an ankle trauma kit on me every day (not just hunting).
It includes:
SOG trauma shears (I cannot express how great these are)
CAT5 Tourniquet
QuickClot Combat Gauze
H&H Mini Compression Bandage
2 Hyfin Chest Seals
2 sets of...
This bill has been retracted. Huge thanks to everyone who wrote in.
Bill to outlaw bear hunting in California withdrawn by lawmaker, after online campaign
Where did you find the resident vs non-resident split? I had difficulty dredging that up, so I had to make some assumtions. As to license just to hunt if Weiner can make crap up about declining bear pops (which is an outright lie) I feel pretty justified including the hunting license into my...
Write the Senator.
Explain:
Bear hunting is a food acquisition activity.
Bear hunting generates conservation dollars.
It's humane.
Bear populations are actually on the rise.
Picking on bear hunting is essentially picking on a minority in a representative democracy. Tolerance should mean...
Yes it is.
I started my letter to Senator Wiener by explaining that I ate braised bear meatballs for dinner today. I think it might make sense to contact all the other California senators though.
As to the harvest rate, right now that stands at 919 for the 2020 season. That puts the revenue...
.308 with a 170 grain Accubond (that is unless I have my bow in hand). Unless you plan to plow it through a front shoulder whatever you use for deer and elk should be fine.
I just sent this. Also there is a petition going around to oppose this ban. Don't just gripe here. Say something. I don't care if you live in California or not, this is an issue for all hunters (even if you don't hunt bear)
Senator Wiener,
Let me start by saying that I ate braised black-bear...
My point was aimed at the fact that the name of a bill and the logic by which is enacted often have little to do with the effect of the law itself. If the aim is to prevent dog deaths (which is an easy thing to support on an emotional level), why take aim at leghold traps?
From the bill itself...
I now live in Washington where I cannot trap with any sort of body-grip style trap. The idea being that holding an animal to be killed is inhumane. That said, you can trap and kill with a have-a-heart style trap (but only under pretty strict conditions). I have trapped and killed hundreds of...
Turkey hunting is by far my favorite type of hunting. It's a very cerebral endeavor.
Shotgun is easy: full choke (I think xtremes are too tight for closer shots) 12 Gauge, 3" 4-6# (I lean to the 4 side of that).
I almost always use a decoy, but I am often on private land (turkey access is way...
It makes my day to see this one get put to use and modified to suit. I agree that a tough cut would be better suited to the dish (the gelatin you get from that connective tissue makes for a great mouthfeel), but sirloin would turn out pretty darn good as well.
I need to post a few more recipes...
I left one trekking pole on the side of a mountain somewhere. I was so tired I did not notice. ONE pole. You can't just buy one, so now I have 3 poles...this breaks my spirit in ways I hat to admit.
I've messed with a few Tikka's at this point. They are always great out of the box and fairly easy to improve. I really think they are a better go-to rifle at this point than the 700 (which is STILL a great gun).
