Unfortunately I don’t have a pic of his tail. I was by myself and just happy to get him. The non forking antlers is what made me question but that wasn’t until I got home.
Well, what do you guys think? Mule deer, whitetail or hybrid?
I got him out in the eastern plains of Colorado where mule deer and whitetail and their habitat overlap. When I first spotted him from about a mile away I thought for sure mule deer. After sealing the deal I noticed that his antlers...
At this point what we’re really talking about is if you don’t do it you will be going from 5 to the equivalent of less than 5 next year cause everyone else will do it.
Ya I’m kinda disappointed in the way they went about it too. I was down in Phoenix in January 2020. I left a wedding late one night and drove to Kingman to make it to a class that I booked months in advance just to turn around and drive like 4 hours back the same night to catch a plane early in...
I got mine in the mail and all it was was a standard sheet of printer paper, printed with faded ink. I kinda thought it would be some form of more durable paper or plastic like every other state but I guess I’ll just keep it in a ziplock bag or something.
Well I finally made up my mind and pulled the trigger on buying my Elk combo. I’ve got a few decent tags for here in CO so I couldn’t make up my mind but I’m super excited to chase some Elk this archery season up in MT! I was number 68 on the original list FYI.

Well unfortunately I feel like we are on the same page. I hunted hard for 2 and a half weeks straight. Never missed a morning or evening. Glassed for countless hours, drove a lot and hiked many many miles. I still haven’t laid eyes on a moose yet either!
I spent 4 evenings on a ridge with the...
Family came out and visited for a few days which was cool. I hiked every decommissioned road in the unit and drove every creek possible and so far nothing. Weather is clear so I’m planning on glassing the high basins the next few days. I’ve still got a solid week and going solo From here on out.
So far it’s been tough out here. Seen every animal except moose. The weather changed yesterday to perfect moose weather... 40 degrees, light rain and hanging clouds. Hopefully they move around a little more and spend some time outside of the jungle.
Well... Here we go. The day is finally here! My son and I hit the road in the morning! Probably gonna stop for the night in Billings or Bozeman and plan on getting camp set up and starting the hunt on Tuesday. Sons gonna hang with me for a solid week which we’re really looking forward to. I’d...
Thanks 44Hunter. I sure will. Been ELK hunting at about 11,000 and we already delt with a pretty decent 8" snow.
Are you working the Marion and Beaver Fires?
Well, the wait is almost over... I’m getting the camper ready tomorrow and hitting the road in 5 days!
Keeping my eye on a few fires only 5 miles from the unit, but hopefully the rain this weekend slows them down a bit and nocks down the smoke too. It’s been a few months since I’ve been out...
I know. I can’t wait. I literally was belly crawling through the New Mexico grasslands stalking antelope the last few days and all I kept thinking about was chasing moose in Idaho!
I got back about a week ago from what I would consider a great scouting mission. First of all, it literally rained almost the entire time I was there. It broke for the morning the day I left, but otherwise just consistently drizzled the whole time. The underbrush is thicker than anything I have...
