    Another first-timer looking for advice

Ha! I am really wanting to do one of the group hunts the next time one comes around. I need more friends in Indiana that hunt west or I just need to move west.

    Another first-timer looking for advice

I am right there with you. I try to do as much research as I can. I feel bad asking questions. I wish I lived smack dab in the middle of the west. My desk ends up looking like Tony Stark's desk in Iron Man since putting boots on the ground isn't an option for me. I think Wyoming holds a...

    Wyoming Non-Resident Options - Question

Appreciate your response and assurance. I am not dead set on hunting wilderness. I do like being away from the crowd though. In Wyoming, there appears to be a few ways to do that: 1) Hunt wilderness 2) Hunt just outside wilderness areas in wilderness units 3) Go further and/or go higher...

    Wyoming Non-Resident Options - Question

I did not know that. I thought you had to pick the unit and then go hunt that unit. Yes I am sure. 3 points.

    Wyoming Non-Resident Options - Question

I am exhausted. All I want to do is hunt elk. Being from Indiana, to prepare for it feels like 30 all night study sessions in row preparing for an exam. I love it! :-) Wyoming has about 12,000 non-resident hunters each year. I plan on being one of them next year. Short of begging a...

    Hunting a Wildfire Burn Area

How do you go about finding out how severe the fire was? Boots on the ground for a Hoosier isn't an option. Do they grade fire severity somewhere? I am also wondering if the burn is right, will it hold elk at lower elevations than where they are normally found in September? I really should...

    Wyoming Points

You are right, 2017 was a 31% chance with Regular Draw. GoHunt has it as 100% with Special Draw....that is why I listed it.

    Wyoming Points

I am 100% sure I am coming out to Wyoming this next year. It’s just a matter of General or those few Limited 1’s I have access to. In general, I am not after records, just experiences. I am too late to the game and only have so many years left of this western hunting experience. I don’t...

    Wyoming Points

I already have approval from the CEO/CFO/COO that I can make a trip for archery and trip back for rifle if needed. I like the ability to hunt both. Definitely going to be the strategy moving forward.

    Wyoming Points

I appreciate the advice, everybody. With 3 points, I can most likely draw a Limited Type 1 in units 98, 97, 51 or 34. Dumb question.....is it not worth at least trying in those units over General units and skirting the wilderness areas that are in those units?

    Wyoming Points

Getting that feeling, but I really hate the idea of burning them on a General. Maybe I will just long shot a limited entry and try to hunt off my 2nd choice.

    Wyoming Points

Back in the day (3 years ago for me), I started buying Wyoming preference points. After doing an Idaho OTC 2 years ago as my first hunt and missing this year, I was starting to think about jumping in on Wyoming for next year. Best I can tell though after looking at draw odds and such, I am...

    Elk Herd Data

Well good. We all get to share the love of the grind.

    Elk Herd Data

Bingo. Thank you so much! I swear, preparing for hunting in the west from the east coast is a full time job. :-)

    Elk Herd Data

I was wondering if anyone knows of published elk herd health data for Wyoming? When I use OnX Maps and click on a hunt unit, it tells me the herd name and herd number. I am having a hard time finding data/statistics on said herds. Any help appreciated. Tony

    Hunting a Wildfire Burn Area

I have less experience. :-) I am picking D because I have no clue. In my head, I can make the case against 3 months to 1 year because its too new and they don't find it. I can make the case against 4-7 years because it starts to catch up to the old growth again. I am just guessing....and...

    Hunting a Wildfire Burn Area

For fun, 1 answer only. For learning purposes, why did you pick that answer? In your opinions, when is the best time to start hunting a wildfire burn area? A - 3 months to 1 year after B - 1-3 years after C - 4-7 years after D - All of the above Tony

    Spotting Scope Application Question

This has helped immensely. Thank you! Objective helps at low light and magnification gets you further into the timber to keep track of them, in my scenario, as they move from meadow to bedding area. Now I just need to figure out what magnification spotter I want.

    Spotting Scope Application Question

Can a larger objective help with that? I don't have the experience with them so it made sense, but now I am not sure. :-)
