Thanks for that 4th season picture. While it does look like it may have its difficulties dealing with the snow, I can see how elk are a lot easier to spot with that white background
Wow that’s an awesome picture. We were in CO 2 years ago in February for a ski trip but we took a day off and did a 4 mile hike, so I know we CAN deal with the cold and terrain. However, maybe for a first CO hunt camping in 4th season might not be the best idea. Baby steps lol. This whole...
Hey everyone! Just doing some preemptive thinking and preparing for a 2020 CO elk hunt. I’m from Florida so the terrain, elevation, and weather will be new to us. Any suggestions on 1st vs 4th season rifle tag? I would like to avoid OTC seasons for crowding reasons, and I know there are benefits...
The weak point in most systems is the shooter (especially since you’re a newer shooter). Also, most factory barrels aren’t made with the same quality as a higher end aftermarket barrel. It can take a couple hundred rounds to truly “break-in” the barrel and smooth it out. Spend time shooting and...
Thanks so much for the help. Good to know I’m somewhat on the right track. I will say it’s pretty cool when you see a spit and just think “oh that’s a good one.” Even though let’s be real I have no clue.
Thanks! This is my first time really messing with e-scouting and I’ve never been on an elk hunt before. I’m sure there are others like me and I think it would be beneficial to have a thread where you can post pictures of your e-scouting finds for more experienced hunters to assess and give you...
I don’t mind at all. I haven’t picked a unit so I’m just playing around doing some e-scouting. Since we’re on the subject though, how does this area look? Minus the trail that is.
Quick question, I’m doing some scouting on GE right and found what I feel is an awesome spot. It’s a huge basin but there’s a trail that runs right through the middle of the it. The entrance to the basin is about 3.5 miles from the trailhead. Should this spot be avoided? Or would the distance...
I personally use the Gen 1 Vortex PST. Glass is very clear and you can find them used for a reasonable price. The nice thing about that is with their VIP warranty if you get it and it’s busted you can send it to them for repair/replacement for free.
Thank you! What is it that made you come up with that outlined area? The reason I ask is because I was recently looking at 37 and 371 which are just outside your boundary lol
Totally agree. I like to think I’m a little bit of both. I don’t mind striking out, but I also would like to make sure the unit I’m learning is worthwhile. I don’t care about trophies. It’s the experience. I appreciate the responses everyone 👍🏼
That makes sense. As of now I’m just trying to narrow down unit so I’ve been looking at >50% public land, >20:100 M:F ratios, and >20% harvest. It seems to be a tough decision because there’s so many units and different terrains (being from FL that makes a difference to me), but from what I’ve...
