i'm in agreement with the 45-70. but I would go with the 30-06 if you really feel the need for more power/velocity i would go on up to the 300 weatherby or or 338 win mag. ive shot the 300 for a long time and i'm thinking of going back to the 30-06 or even down to 270 for when i'm not carrying...
have them in 30-30, 45-70, 17hmr. i love them. if the price is right for you you should buy that one in 280. they are surprisingly accurate and fun to shoot and with a little practice you can reload them fast enough to make most follow up shots.
Used a $250 Alps Mountaineering, spent a night in 50 knot wind with gust of 70 knots, fairly comfortably. would highly recommend it, and probably won't ever buy another brand of tent.
are you hunting black bear or brown bear? don't need to be 2nd kindred for black bear and the southside of kachemak bay and around the corner towards gore point has some great blackbear hunting. takes a bit of work to find anything over 6 1/2 feet, but a 6-6 1/2 footer is very realistic.
and...
hard to tell since photos are fuzzy. doesn't have its winter fur coming on yet, that will change up looks a bit. at the very least its a good one to keep track of. best of luck to you on your hunt.
i dont hunt with a muzzleloader, but it is my understanding in MUZZLELOADER ONLY hunts it must be traditional no modern style rifles or optics
i could be wrong though
DG363 Mountain goat YES!
drew this same tag year before last, got to hunt two days and didn't have the time or the weather to go back for the rest of season.
NPADEN you drew my bison tag.... Congratulations, now go put in for the lottery and PCH, you got the worse odds out of the way.
How are you Knees?
Back still strong?
do you enjoy bad weather?
days filled with disappointment your thing?
every start to think its more likely to see a unicorn or a sombrero wearing Sasquatch before drawing a tag or if you do draw it a legal animal to shoot?
by all means go after the big three
black bears on the kenai peninsula sometimes wake up late march but are never out in any real numbers till about 2nd week of April. other than that you are pretty much stuck with small game. winter king fishing on kachemak bay is another option.
Put in for
kenai peninsula
MT. Goat
Dall's Sheep
Caribou
Anterless moose (meat tag)
delta Bison
raspberry and afognak island Elk Tags
possibly blacktail on kodiak depending on what i draw
primary plan is to go in by boat and hunt the south side of Tustumena lake for moose the last 10 days or...
