My suggestion would be both lol, but that’s because those are basically what I want in my safe. I love my 25-06 and wouldn’t give it up for anything. I also have a Ruger M77 280 rem, but I’ve been seriously looking at building a custom Tikka in 280 AI! I just need to decide to spend the money...
Yeah I generally keep ammo on hand for maybe two years which is clearly not going to be enough unless I stretch it. I think your 5 year suggestion is the right one and what I’ll be doing from here on.
Trying to track down large rifle primers for my 25/06 and 280.
It’s crazy out there! I picked the complete wrong time to get into reloading. I’ve managed to get everything I need, but I can’t find primers except at ridiculous prices! $100-200 for a 1,000 primers is the best I’m seeing.
Here in Virginia I run stratus bibs until temps get below 30, then switch to the fanatic bibs which are solid for me into the teens. If burrs are an issue, I have a buddy who runs the incinerator bibs which have a smooth exterior. They are ridiculously warm but might fit your needs/wants. You’ll...
Question for the masses. I drew a Wyoming General Tag this year and recently got back from scouting out the areas I plan to hunt, and a couple backup spots. I found a couple single bulls, one spot with a bunch of cows although very spread out, and a couple areas with lots of rut sign from last...
Thats awesome! Thanks for sharing the photos and reminding me I need to get out there and go check it out as well! I live in northern VA, so it's not close, but it's also not the 27 hour drive I'm doing to hunt elk this year either!
I would also highly recommend checking out Elk101's University of Elk Hunting. This is my first year hunting elk in the backcountry and I just got back from a scouting trip on public ground where I found elk and lots of elk sign. Much of this I learned from Elk101. I'll also second Randy's...
As mentioned several times already Randy Newberg's videos, Elk101.com, the Elk university has a ton of information. Read back through these forums it's amazing how much information is in here! Elk Talk podcast, Backcountry Rookies podcast and Hunt Backcountry podcasts are all phenomenal. This...
Definitely go hunt dude! The fact that your thinking it through is awesome and means you're a mile ahead of a lot of your peers! It's great to set yourself up for the future, but maintain that work/life balance for your mental health. Plus you have tons of time ahead in your life to look back on...
I have a MR Cabinet and really like it for day hunts. Plenty of room to carry the essentials and it carries a load well if you need to haul something out.
