Hogs have in large part taken over many states because people stocked them in order to be able to have something to hunt. If hunting them is illegal, then there is no reason to stock them.
You did what we all should do. This kind of thing goes on here in Oregon too. It’s un-nerving when confronted by a land owner that seems positive you are on his land. It makes you second guess yourself and wonder if he is right.
Buy points often, frequently, and as much as you can. In the years to come, it will only take more points to get drawn. I would focus on Wyoming for all your hunting needs. Nevada by the way is the biggest sleeper state in the whole US. Great deer and elk hunting!
Coos Bay and South of there. When I retire, I’m getting the heck out of this state. Marxists and their useful idiots run everything West of the Cascades. I’m soooooo sick of it.
Another thought for you. Given the covid restrictions and cancellations, you might be able to negotiate a good deal on a guided hunt. Don’t be afraid to try to dicker on the price of a hunt. After 911, I was able to book a fantastic trip to Africa. The daily rate was half of what it usually...
Believe it or not, Nevada is a great state for Mt. Goats. Not sure of the draw odds, worth looking into. Also, in some states a NR, actually has a better chance of being drawn than do residents. You will have to study each states regs carefully.
First thing you need to do is start accumulating points. Most areas out here are draw only, not all, but most. I suggest focusing on Wyoming. Lots of game and 1 or 2 points will get you a tag. Pick a state, get points, focus on a unit. Loads of info on the net once you choose a unit.
No problem. Pick an opening day and set up on any of the game trails that parallel the 26 highway. Three miles West of wolf creek and continuing Westward. Not the most fun way to hunt elk, but it works.
Nice stumbling in here. I shoot rifle, pistol, and shotguns. My new pet is a .264 Win, as soon as my mounts arrive, I hope to be able to go some bragging on it. If anyone is interested in hunting or fishing in Oregon, I will be happy to share any and all info I have.
I recently got the same rifle. I went with a Swor z3 3x10x40. Conetrol mounts are on the way. I replaced the trigger spring with an Earnie’s the gunsmith spring. I can’t wait to give mine a try.
