I like high magnification so I would absolutely do it in a quality scope. I like having the headspace to crank the magnification up and aim small. A lot of it is personal preference but if you like it, do it.
Public land is tough in NWA. You can't bait and unless you are in the area enough to figure out where they are feeding, I think it may be prohibitively difficult. That said, you can use deer season to do some scouting and maybe be lucky enough to catch some sign and possibly even sight them...
