Maybe I estimated the score too high. I thought he was 28" wide and his gross score was 170" +/- 2". I have a hard time believing he is less than 27" wide and scores less than 160". Deer in this area tend to have ears that are 24" when laid flat out. I think he has 23" ears which is slightly...
I posted this on MM but I don't think most of those guys know how to judge a Muley. What do you guys think.
What do you think this bucks gross score and outside spread is? He is really symetrical and should have a net score within a few inches of his gross score.
Here is another picture...
Yes, it is the same buck. His rack in the "inset picture" looks like his main beam and G4s substantially curve in but it is just the antlers of a small buck behind him. It was just starting to get light outside so the pictures didn't turn out very good. I'm going to see if I can find this buck...
Here are some Idaho bucks I've been able to take pictures of this summer. In about a month I'll be chasing them with a stick and string. :) I took the pictures of the buck in the first two pictures this morning.
Thanks for sharing the picture. He looks like an older buck to me. I would guess ear tip to ear tip in the picture is 22"-23". That would put him at 31"-32" outside spread.
I hope I get lucky this year and pull a moose tag. Anyone know the exact dates the F&G have posted the results other years? I could be wrong but I think it has been posted as early as May 15th and as late as May 22nd.
Moosie, we aren't questioning whether you will draw. We are questioning...
Congratulations on the tag. Good to hear you will have a posse of 6-8 cheerleaders along as required for a Utah elk shoot.;) There will be some good stories on hunttalk this fall.
Good to see another poacher get what he deserved. His fine and loss of hunting privlages still isn't fair compensation to legal hunters IMHO but at least the judge threw the book at him.
I also put in for moose in Eastern Idaho. I don't count on drawing but thought I will never draw a moose tag if I never apply.
Unit 63 doesn't look like moose habitat but there are a few there. It is kind of strang seeing moose standing in the Snake River Plain where there is mostly sage brush...
My brothers and I were able to draw one of the controlled bull hunts in Idaho this year. This is the first controlled hunt I have been able to draw in Idaho out of the 9 years that I have put in for deer, elk and antelope. In the four days that we hunted we saw at least 26 different bulls but...
I think it depends on the deer. May be the last time you see him but if it is his home range I would bet on him coming back. Considering what time of year it is, he probably has breeding on his mind. Even without being bumped he could move a few miles away to chase does.
This year during the...
Here is a picture of my 2006 muley. I spotted him from about 3/4 mile. I moved to within 300 yards of him and watched him feed for about 5 minutes. I couldn't decide if I should take him so I moved about 50 yards closer and watched him for another 5 minutes. I estimated his width at 22”. At this...
Congratulations on another great trophy for your wife.
Now there will be another one on the wall. When people asked how you got it you will have to explain "the wife shot that one too"

I see bucks sparing as soon as the velvet comes off every year. I've probably seen bucks lock antlers about 4 or 5 times this fall. These are not serious fights like they have close to the rut. I think they are just pushing each other around and testing their strength.
