This is a long one.
I just got back from my first ever Archery Elk Hunt and wanted to give a report. Although I didn’t shoot one, this trip was an astounding success! I saw 6 different elk, had three spikes at 15 yds, a cow at 15 yds, and played cat and mouse with two bulls bugling back and...
Mine took a while to send and receive messages. I would have to manually check for messages and it would take sometimes 20 minutes. I dont use it for the gps function and turn it off after getting a message out. Only needed to charge it once. However when I would click on the map function in my...
On my hike out yesterday I realized I was missing one of my arrows with a very sharp broadhead. An hour later I found it laying in the snow point up about two steps out of my camp. I was so nervous I wouldn’t find it and someone or a horse would cut themselves on it. From now on packing in and...
Wife and I checked out a house the other weekend. Very nice move in ready but it was on a small 1/4 acre residential lot. Decided not to put an offer in. Glad we didn’t waste our time because it was sold by the end of the weekend for 21k over.
My last camping trip I made burritos and they were a huge hit, taco meet or shredded chicken in the crock pot, whatever seasoning you like, rice, cheese etc. roll them up in foil and freeze them. We threw them right in the fire to heat them up and they were a big hit. No utensils or plates...
I will update with a hunting report in a few weeks, but the next week is going to go by slow....
I did bring a couple “thumper” broadheads in case I see one. Do you guys gut them right away or wait until dinner? Just cook them spatchcock style? Not much experience with feathered animals.
These are the ones I found. Full disclosure I’ve only used them once but it worked just fine.

I have been planning my first western elk hunt for a year and a half. My obsession for this adventure started after watching Meateater and seeing so many backpack hunts and hunting adventures. I started consuming content on YouTube and quickly found Randy’s videos as well. I stopped hunting...
After seeing so many people suggest the pour over set ups I found some disposable single serve pour over filters on amazon. They have arms and hang on your cup. Just tested it out and was really surprised. It made a real cup of coffee a hundred times better then instant and it was pretty quick...
Thought I would revive this thread because I know everyone loves rattle snakes. For the second year in a row in an area I hunt very hard in the fall and never see a snake, I came across one while hanging cameras. Of course just like last year when I saw one, my wife was with me. She is a magnet...
I find all of the instant coffees taste terrible in their own unique way. Of the terrible instant coffees I like the cheap tasters choice version the best. Why pay $6 for Star Bucks Vias when I can pay $.99 for the same disappointment.
I vacuum sealed my game bags with rubber gloves and plastic sheet. It’s stays in the bottom of my pack and if I do need to open it, they aren’t going back in the pack anyway. I also vacuum sealed a basic trauma kit. TQ, combat gauze, and some sterile pads. Again if I have to open that the stuff...
I’ve been following this thread because I am driving out in a couple of weeks for my first hunt. I know a large portion of it is I-70. Where exactly are the closures, and is there anywhere you guys check for updates on it. I’d rather find another scenic route then be surprised 25 hours into a drive.
I saw that and decided not to chance it. If you pick express shipping they charge you an extra $45 for 2-3 day shipping. Think I will just grab one in person on the way out.
Anyone do any overnight oats? My wife reminded me about them and I thought it would be a time saver to soak them overnight instead of boiling water. I’m messing with a recipe to get it how I like and to pre package into freezer bags. So far I have oats, a scoop of protein powder, PB2 (it’s...
Since I sucked wind so much last month hiking in Colorado, I started insanity max 30. I dread starting the workouts but once I’m done I feel great. I have to mop up a puddle of sweat off the floor when I’m done.
