Although I generally enjoy screwing something up while climbing a learning curve I think I’ll have someone else do it for me. I can’t risk screwing up my first and only hunting rifle 🤣
Or maybe I should and then I can start one of those “best rifle” threads.
I have a Ruger M77 MkII in .270 that my father got me in the 90’s as a first rifle. It’s a great rifle and the only one I use or need for hunting. The stock had been cut down years ago to fit me a little better when I was a kid so I’m debating putting a new stock on it. What stock would your...
I found this recipe online and tweaked it a little bit. Like someone else mentioned beer really gives it a great taste. I’ve found it doesn’t matter too much what kind.
1.5 lbs ground meat
1 Diced Onion
1 Green Pepper
1 Red Pepper
1-2 Jalepenos
4 Minced Garlic Cloves
4 Tbsp Chilli Powder
1/2...
I went with the 6000 because I couldn’t justify the extra cost for features I don’t think I needed. The other models I think have better video capabilities and I believe an updated sensor. I find the kit lenses work pretty well, but definitely fall short in low light.
I got a Sony A6000 last year with both kit lenses. I learned how to use it and can get some great photos with it for my purposes. Last year they were on sale for $500-600 And I’m really happy with it for my needs.
Not legal where I’m at, and I’m not into it. My family has a place near a lot of game lands where people put out corn for deer just so they can see the deer, not for hunting. It’s kind of a touristy Air BNB type of devolopement where people from the city go to “be in the woods”. The deer flock...
Guide fitter sometimes has special sales with certain brands with some really great deals. Last year I picked up a lone wolf climber that was on clearance for an insanely low price... for a lone wolf.
Worked:
Crispi boots, well worth it no blisters or sores
VIAM 10 degree quilt. I will always be a quilt person now. I can roll up like a burrito and be comfortable.
Backpacking coffee filters
Advil PM and Benadryl
Cheap Eddie Bauer down puffy. Got it an outlet for pretty cheap and it is...
I have two sets of Icebreaker merino socks, a light pair and a medium pair. They have been great and are my first choice for hiking or hunting. I also have some minus 33 merino socks. These are ok, but aren’t fitted or have any contouring, just basically a big thicker regular sock.
What saddle and aided are you using? I just bought some hawk helium sticks, but haven’t gotten the stand portion. I’m thinking about going the saddle route instead of a lock on.
Yeah the metcalf or any other high end backpack for tree stand carry is overkill, but I had it already. Prior to that I bought some military surplus straps from eBay that were 20 bucks. Worked just fine.
I was doing the military surplus backpack straps system until I realized my metcalf was the perfect vehicle to carry my climber. Straps right in and you barely notice the weight. I actually just bought a MR Mule bag to use on the frame instead so I don’t fill my metcalf with too much stuff on my...
Brought the Leukotape but put it on too late. Incidentally I listened to Randy’s pod cast about foot care when I was stuck in the tent. Next time myself and whoever is hunting with me will be pre-taped. And I will not loose another day of hunting due to poor rain gear again!
I passed on a bunch of grouse last week because of the fire ban. I could have shot about 6 of those goofy birds. It’s as if they are trying really hard to get away but don’t make it very far.
