@JLS
In what way did the knife break? Handle fall off? Edge chip out? Tip break off?
Would you say it was a design flaw, low quality material, or a QC issue?
I have always heard good things about KOA, just wondering what happened.
if your main concern is keeping children safe, most police departments hand out child locks for free. Then I would move them into a locked closet or some such. While not an end goal solution, it would buy you some time to get a better safe, and that is someplace where I would not skimp money on...
Throw a "hot hand" pack in one, and they will go down colder then I would want to hunt in. Without the warmer, I've been in the single digits with ~10mph wind with no problems. But that was with the old pair Bigfin had an Amazon link to from another thread. These definetly look better built, but...

Before throwing money at a problem, I would try the free stuff. like shooting prone (fix or discard that bench), have somebody else shoot it at 200, and maybe run a box test at 100 yards and see how your rifle tracks.
I love my nightforce ATACR 5-25x56 ffp. Holds zero perfectly, amazing glass, and built like a tank.
I would also look at the Schmidt and benders and leupolds mark 4 line
That's kind of what I figured after seeing the snow in your photos. Adds another whole technical level to the hunt when you need to start bringing gear like that.
@EYJONAS!
I'm pulling for you, it's obvious you have the heart and guts to get it done, now you just need a bit of luck.
This time of year, are you finding you would need/like crampons? Maybe earlier in the year while scouting?
