Actual Weight of Meat - Can we be honest?

That 436 was with bone-in quarters, which with a moose those bones are probably a fairly significant amount of weight.

    Montana Mule Deer District 270

We saw some pretty good rut action with this really cold weather this weekend. I bet that tag is real good from the get-go this year.

    A little eastern Montana luck

We would always joke around when hunting that country that we would walk around in the dark with our rifles held above our head to catch us when we plummeted into the abyss. Some of those holes are incredible, and really scary how they can be covered up for the most part. Great job on the bull...

Actual Weight of Meat - Can we be honest?

I just happened to have my butcher's sheet from this moose handy. The bull was 11 years old, and the four quarters with bone in, and all other salvageable meat weighed a combined 436 pounds.

    Sarcocystis in Game Animals

Threads like this always remind me of one of my favorite quotes- "The greatest aspect of the internet is that every person is given a platform to speak. The worst aspect of the internet is that every person is given a platform to speak." Thanks for the clarification Hunting Wife.

    Traeger Virgin

I did an antelope shoulder. I had a thread on here but photobucket killed the photos- https://www.hunttalk.com/threads/sunday-afternoon-experiment.259838/ Dont leave it on the smoke too long, as it's easy to dry out. I'd give it a good run of smoke then wrap it or throw it in a roast pan and...

Tenderloin - Not Backstrap.... It is always tough!

If this isn't the worst comment I've read, it's easily the most un-American. Take a lap wllm.

    E-Scouting for Elk using onX

There is tons of public land, in Montana, that is not grazed. I have seen those spots, so I'm simply adding on that your experiences and his statement aren't mutually exclusive.

    WY preference point deminishing returns?

I love threads like this. The quality of some of the hunts I've had in units that take a truckload of points is truly mind boggling. Yes, OTC hunts do tend to crank out some of the biggest animals, but running around a giant chunk of public land with only a handful of other tagholders and tons...

What is the longest you've aged a big game animal?

Likewise. Some of the stuff I've seen the last couple years coming from meateater and other social media outlets looks like borderline wanton waste.

Break open your first aid kits for me

Good idea for a thread. I was going through mine not long ago and wondered what others have. I'm probably overkill on mine, but multiple times I've been able to hand hunting partners things that they're glad to have. -gauze -quickclot -clothtape -alcohol pads -antibiotic ointment...

    Ruined a kid’s hunt

Sorry to bust your balls on it Onpoint, I do get where you're coming from, but that comment struck a nerve with me. I'm chronically ill, but I'm not sure most people would know that by looking at me. Sometimes I feel great and am able to go on some pretty cool alpine hunts and backpacking...

    Ruined a kid’s hunt

Ha! I grew up with that kid. He actually got busted because the Missoulian interviewed him, and in the hunt play by play they straight up said what happened. Looks like they edited the original article, but here's the follow up-...
