I've hunted a nearby unit in 3rd rifle, and while there were certainly a lot of orange in the hills, there were still deer if you were willing to put in the bootleather to get away from the crowds. I saw several forkies that would have worked for meat in the freezer, and ended up stumbling on a...
Thanks for the feedback gents. May be leaning towards a 10/22 despite it being heavier/longer than the Henry, because as far as I can tell the design on that one hasn't changed and I don't have patience for the constant failures of the Henry.
I have seen the keltec offerings, cool options but...
The size/weight/ability to pack into it's stock make me really prefer the Henry Survival to the 10/22. If they haven't improved on the design though and it chokes constantly, I'm gonna hate the SOB, so may end up going with the 10/22. Why the aftermarket tweaks? Did you need them to get it to...
Looking to get a takedown rifle to throw in a backpack and pull out it take a squirrel or two while backpacking during the summer.
Years ago I had a Henry Survival Rifle, loved the concept but was notoriously unreliable, sent it back to Henry to get them to look at it, they said they fixed the...
I've hunted unit 28 in 3rd rifle before, lots and lots and lots of hunters.
And I'm confused about OP's your camping question, there's tons of national forest in the units you mentioned, what are you looking for, RV hookups or something?
Promotive I mean Experticity I mean Expert Voice as others have stated. Mystery Ranch and First Lite have great deals that make their stuff pretty reasonable. Vortex, Leupold, US Optics.
wllm1313 has good advice, need to know more what you plan on doing before giving advice. Depending on what you want, I would add a Mystery Ranch Beartooth to the running, got some pretty good upgrades on the Metcalf.
Thanks for all the feedback gents! Glad to hear the Uncompahgre is decent at blocking wind. Gonna get it sans additional wind-blocking layer and see how it does. Hopefully get a chance to test it out before third season. Happy hunting!
What is the intended use? Pretty much anything in the lower 48 can be taken with .308. Magnum cartridges make a big boom which I guess is cool, but I think a lot of people shoot less accurately with magnums because they are more likely to flinch/pull their shot...plus ammo is more expensive so...
I'll have to check out the podcast - I've just recently started listening to his stuff so I've mostly been catching up on old episodes. I know he's a big sitka guy, I would probably go that route if it wasn't for having a discount with FL. It's weird to me that FL wouldn't have a roomier outer...
I'm getting a First Lite set up this spring while I dream about getting out in the fall. Gonna go with First Lite cuz I've got a little discount with them. My question is for 3rd season glassing, I'm going to get a big puffy layer (most likely the unpronounceable jacket, I already have a puffy...
That's the crappy thing about innovation! When I'm getting a piece of equipment I research around and try to get the best I can (within reason), then I make a point not to look at anything new that comes out in that field for a long time - happier that way :)
I'd check out the Beartooth. It's new for this year so you're not going to find a ton of info on it online, but it's only half a pound heavier than the Metcalf, but it's larger and has more pockets/areas to store different gear, and a duffle style zipper, which I think is a great idea (get at...
