I've camped in a hammock before, but can't see using one on a hunt. I know they make flies that can cover them, but I wouldn't want to spend any time in rain or snow with one, would much rather have the walls of a tent to keep my gear dry. I also find it's helpful to have the tent floor to...
A $100 pair or nocs will work for brief glassing periods, or if it's your first hunt and it's all you can afford. Spend more than a few minutes looking through a cheap pair though and you'll start to feel the eye strain. Spend hours or more glassing and you'll hate your life.
You get what you...
Risk you're taking there is that your processor may not return your meat to you. I've heard plenty of stories of processors who take the animals in back, stack em up and go through them one at a time, and you just end up with someone else's antelope or deer.
I second the idea of getting a 3 man tent. The weight difference is pretty minimal, and if you get stuck in a storm, you'll be super thankful for the extra space. If you're not doing more than spending 8 hours zzz time in there, not a big deal to be tight with your partner, but I'd almost...
Welcome to Hunttalk! Why don't you introduce yourself in the 'Who am I?' forum, sometimes you get better results if your first posting isn't a query for info.
I haven't hunted unit 7 but I've spent sometime in that area riding quads and hiking. A lot of dark timber for elk to disappear into...
It sounds like the gist of your question is how is the hunting in these units. I'm still a newbie, but when I'm researching a new area I use a couple tools. 1) gohunt.com, 2) the state's Parks and Wildlife/Game and Fish website and look through statistics from previous years' harvests, 3) do a...
Not trying to be a troll/ass, just honest feedback. If you're asking a question online, I've found you get both more and better responses if you use punctuation (there's not a single comma, semicolon or period in your post) and if you read what you've written before clicking "post" to make sure...
Drew a mulie buck and antelope buck plus a couple doe tags!! Not stellar units (had 0 points), but couldn't be more excited for my first Wyoming hunt.
Glad I've been picking up used coolers when they come up for sale.
One day till Wyoming results are out for non-res deer and speed goat, wish I was a resident to say I'd be finding out about elk!
My first hunting trip to WY, put in for a male and female tag for both deer and antelope, not stellar units but excited nonetheless. What are you all waiting to...
Punching a hole through the strap of your pack doesnt bother you?
I'm not one to baby my gear, but putting a big hole through a load bearing part of my pack just doesnt feel right.
Why not let your kid learn and get good with irons? I shot a lot with irons as a kid, served me well, was always able to shoot expert on the qual range later in life. Dont think it would have been as easy for me if I grew up shooting with optics.
Anyone seen this sling keeper product? I love the idea, sling sliding off the shoulder is a nuisance and this seems like a better solution than clipping your sling in with a carabiner or something because it allows you to quickly unsling your rifle.
Only thing I dont like is that it's held in...
ElkFever, I'm planning on doing something similar, but haven't researched Wyoming as thoroughly. How do you end up drawing both tags? Here in CO you'd put in choices 1-3. If your first choice was a male elk and you didn't draw it, they'd look at you for your second choice (the type 6 tag in...
Thanks for all the great feedback gents! I looked into all the individual suggestions, had not heard of a lot of them. The decision was made though when I found a used 10/22 takedown for cheap locally on Armslist.
