SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

As I said before, I agree with eliminating outfitter set asides. Please stop trying to convince me 10 is more than 16.

    Did a stupid thing

Jemez Mountain 50k was my first. I got passed in the last 10 miles by about half the 50 mile pack. It was a great time. I did a few others as well. My least favorite is the time format. I did 60 miles in a 24 hour 2 mile loop event in Dallas. Once was enough for me on that. Congrats on the...

SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

I guess I don't understand the math well enough to get how that works out. So is there some large contingent of residents that are applying in the outfitter pool?

SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

I guess I can't see what the benefit would be for a resident to limit themselves to such a small percentage of the draw would be.

SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

Yes it is, that is the NR outfitter pool. Currently they are allotted 10% of the tags, non guided non residents are allotted 6% and residents are allotted 84%.

SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

I guess I don't understand why if the landowner tags weren't attractive before they would be now. The outfitter draw isn't guaranteed now, so the people applying in it were obviously prepared for the possibility they wouldn't draw. How would this change their minds? They can still put in the...

SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

How did the diy hunters numbers get bumped up? The entirety of the NR resident pool would be reduced by 6%. Is there some idea that everyone that applied in the outfitter pool previously will just give up and go away?

SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

I know right what a jerk, how dare my self interest be a factor in anything I do. The rich Texans aren't going to magically go away, and if they weren't interested in landowner tags before I fail to see how this will change anything. If I could afford landowner tags, I would buy them. Hell if I...

SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

Well it takes away 6% of the tags that previously went to non-residents. That reduces opportunity for us.

SB 312 - eliminating outfitter set asides.

It's hard to see this as progress when it would reduce overall opportunity.

New rifle, or upgrade the one you own?

I was back and forth for a while on looking for something lighter than my Bergara HMR in .308. After 3 seasons of lugging it around I am getting a little tired of an 11lb rifle. On the other hand I love the way it shoots and find myself having trouble reaching for any of the other options on the...

New Mexico non-resident elk is is worth it?

Depending on the unit and the hunt code, that is entirely possible for your friend as a resident. The non resident odds are never going to be 50/50 based on the way they allocate tags.

    Some exciting gun safety ideas..

The drug war is an easy problem to solve. End prohibition. You are correct though, the crazy person with the gun does drive the narrative in an absurd way.

    Some exciting gun safety ideas..

If ending the drug war isn't on the table, they aren't serious about ending gun violence. The drug war is by far the biggest driver of both street violence and government abuses.

Any way to hunt Texas hogs for free?

I took a drive out to eastern NM along the Pecos river over the holiday break with this same idea in mind. I have seen 2 hogs on BLM once 2 years ago right next to the highway while passing through White's City (near Carlsbad). This was just a day trip mostly concerned with access in the area...

    Lever work

Yeah, I get that. Big part of the reason I haven't gone down that road yet.

    Lever work

It was brand new in 2019.

    Lever work

I just have too much stuff going on and my garage is all ready too packed to get into reloading. I probably should bite the bullet so to speak.

    NM Mulies and Kansas whitetail

Nice job all around. I am going to make another effort at the OTC Barbary this coming year.

    Lever work

If it were consistently in that range maybe. 3 out of 4 times I can't even get a group to work with. I haven't tried many types of ammo yet. I spent most of the spring and summer focusing on my .308. Now that I have some time to start playing with it, ammo is scarce. Hopefully that calms down...
