I can't prove it. However, from how they all interacted. The 3 in this pic. Was a pair with a yearling in tow. Pic was taken late January if I recall. I've seen a few thousand coyotes in my time. Only 2x have I seen an alpha pair with a yearling in tow that time of yr.
IMO you are on the right track. You are blessed to have a Dad who took you hunting & instilled in you a hunting heritage. As for your youth & experience. When I got into predators hunting as a boy. My Dad & his 2 hunting buds taught me how to spot long range canine. I had eyes like a hawk back...
I'm a novice wildlife photographer. I've been at it for maybe 14-15yrs now. I post my pics mainly to educate young predator hunters on how wild canines (Red Fox & coyotes) use the wind. While hunting, traveling & while bedded down.
"Stag hound" pup I had when I was still in school. "Blue" girl was part Greyhound & Scottish Deerhound. I had to give her up because Ma couldn't afford to keep her anymore. I gave her to an old farmer/houndsman(name of Clyde). Blue turned out to be a good coyote dog. Trail hounds ran a large...
I recall only reading two paperbacks when I was young. Both were a good read as they peaked my interests. 1st book (fictional) was called "Tawny". It is about a Greyhound that was dumped off out into the wilderness(Best I can recall). Second book (Factual) Was called "Wing & a prayer" I believe...
A (still) pic taken from a black & white video I made 30+ plus yrs ago. This pr of coyotes used this same focal area numerous times. When the wind was from the NorWest. This pr of coyotes are from the West outer edge of my old hunt grounds. Coyotes are 1/2 mile away. Territorial coyotes. Have...
Hay bale Reds. Male on the ground his mate on the bale. I've seen numerous times. Both coyote & Red Fox laying on Hay bales. Coyote more so than the Reds. Prefer to have an elevated view on "average". However both will bed down on flat or down low areas on occasion.
Over my hunt yrs I have seen more than 1/2 dozen canines I thought had domestic dog in them. They were all very large & did not look "100%" run of the mill coyote to me. One was paired up with a average size coyote. He was twice her size. I put a 223 SN quartered through his chest on the fly...
X-tra large coyote. I never tried for him as I was focused on finding me a fresh lion track. This coyote was so large even after I zoomed in on him with my spotter scope? I still thought he? was a wolf. I spent over 1/2 hr viewing him trying to make out what he? actually was. But once he sat up...
