New rifle for deer
My dad has a Rugger M77 II in 25-06. He absolutely loves it. The 25-06 is probably the best medium-long range deer/antelope cartridge ever designed. (Someone that likes the 6.5 is gonna give me heat lol) My choice would be the Tikka; barrels over 22" should stabilize the bullet. I'd check out...- nodakpursuit

Depends on your budget. A bit higher budget the Tikka would be my choice. Lower budget Ruger American all day. Others have said it but find an option that offers a bit shorter stock or an adjustable stock option that can grow with a kid.- nodakpursuit

Should I dump my oem plastic Savage 16 stock? (and what should I replace it with?)
I am a fan of Boyd's stocks. Good laminate stocks with lots of options. Pillar and glass bedding for best accuracy. Laminate does get kind of heavy thought.- nodakpursuit

What do you wear for hearing protection while big game hunting?
I don't currently use anything. I think hearing the whap when a bullet strikes an animal is very important. I would like to try electronic hearing protection but have yet to.- nodakpursuit

Honestly just find some grass. Wait till early fall right before a rain and mow it. It takes a bit of knowledge on cool season grasses but if the right grasses are present the mowed grass will stay green late just like your lawn.
