The preferred pork operating model is for family farms to own their own land and produce pigs to a particular size under contract. So, if they are well run, not very many. I noted in a post that I sent before seeing this what they are likely doing with this relatively small amount of land.
That doesn’t even put them in the top 100 farming land owners, and much of what they have is operational (think feedlot) or part of a number of wind power setups they are hoping to start. Real Estate may be a good “buy and hold” asset class, but actually production farming has a lousy ROI for...
For the average working person and their communities, better to have a China/German owned company making product in Arkansas but sending profits off shore, than a US owned company sending jobs to Vietnam and profits to NYC (or tax haven locales).
More seriously regarding your unlimited energy point, the following video is the best argument against human energy usage even if we have "clean" energy solutions. Essentially, "clean" energy from geothermal, carbon captured fossil fuels, and nuclear (fission or fusion) all drive a "waste heat"...
Missed “gen”. Meaning we will regret not focusing on next gen nuclear with hindsight after we flood the world with solar panels and wind farms. (And send all our $$$ to china in the process).
An interesting mix of normal ND guy and tech bro. All in all decent guy who doesn’t need to be anybody’s bobo. Don’t know his stand on PL, but won’t be carrying anyone’s water if he doesn’t think it’s right.
Two egoist with no formal governmental status will have zero influence on 535 members of congress stuffing the coffers of their districts/states. It’s just more Bread and Circuses.
It’s weird to see folks from the west putting faith in politicians. I was raised on the wise advice of Ronald Reagan - The nine most terrifying words in the English language are "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."
It would be foolhardy to take the chance. Other than theoretical states rights positions I see no actual benefit and only hope seems to be offered that obvious downsides won’t happen. These folks are not trying to improve public land hunting, no sense thinking otherwise.
sorry but this sounds like “if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” hollow conclusion to dodge the uncomfortable reality. Show us one written statement by any politician in WY saying this?
Ultimately a legislator has to vote yes or no and we have to influence them as to those two options. Life is subtle, nuanced and gray- legislative votes are binary.
For those who are willing to let this great gift of our federal lands be sold off by the individual states because they have a driving commitment to local governance on all matters - I think you will be underwhelmed in the result of local governance in this case for all the reasons @Ben Lamb...
