    Attempted fish theft

If I would have caught one small enough the snake could swallow, I would have given the fish to it. Snakes can eat prey much larger than their own head diameter, but these trout were too big. After seeing this I searched for info about snakes taking anglers' fish and found some documentation...

    Attempted fish theft

I have never seen anything like this before. I give the snake an A+ for effort and persistence, but its assessment of prey size needs work.

    New Gerber Knives

My DTS arrived today. First impressions are very good. My compliments to everyone involved in its design. The tendon tool will be ideal for the rough work that usually dulls my main knife or breaks scalpel blades.

    Which headlamp??

Last year I decided to go with the "buy once, cry once" method and bought a Fenix HM65R. Their offer for 20% off your first purchase took some of the pain away. So far it has been perfect for my needs. Having both spot and flood options in one unit is great, and hiking in the dark is a lot...

Manufacturers of .54 caliber bullets and accessories?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into the No Excuses and Parker Productions. I haven't seen .54 lead Powerbelts anywhere recently.

Manufacturers of .54 caliber bullets and accessories?

It appears Hornady and Thompson Center both stopped making their .54 lead bullets. My muzzleloader is a .54 Knight. Here in Idaho, sabots are not allowed and bullets must be lead only, so that limits my options. Most of the discussions about the lack of .54 options I have seen recently...

    Stabilizing binoculars when glassing?

Here's a universal adapter I made for a few dollars. Works well for me. https://www.hunttalk.com/threads/a-6-diy-binocular-tripod-mount.292892/

That doesn't look ugly to me. I have thought about making my own knife but haven't tried yet.

    Alaska Airlines Credit Card

@119bowhunter My similar thread may have been one you already read, but here it is ... https://www.hunttalk.com/threads/thoughts-on-the-alaska-airlines-credit-card.288084/ I signed up for the card. Mostly it has been good. We used ours on our Alaska trip last summer and got the advertised...

COVID-19 medical mask shortage - can hunting gear companies help?

I started this thread in March when some hospitals couldn't even get basic surgical masks for their employees. I didn't expect it to get dredged up, or to get such a negative response. Randy, thank you for keeping it from going in the ditch. It's great to see Mystery Ranch stepped up to...

    R.I.P Poz

Sad news, and a huge loss for conservation. I keep a couple of his books in my hunting camp. The Dam That Never Was is a great film, and I look forward to seeing what your team produces with the other footage you have.

    Unit 31 bull tag idaho

I haven't been in unit 31 for several years. I had a few hunts there ruined by ATVs and full-size trucks on closed roads. My advice is similar to Duck-Slayer's, get in as deep and far away from roads as you can. Don't count on gates stopping the motorheads. Find a place where the laws of...

Knife search - matching an heirloom

Thanks. I hadn't thought of looking for a used on on eBay either, will take a look. Will also look at the Hidden Canyon.

Knife search - matching an heirloom

Thanks everyone, these are some good ideas. @Dsnow9 I never would have thought to look on Etsy. Good tip. @1_pointer regrinding the Buck sounds like something worth researching. @Addicting I remember Todd Orr's grizzly story but had forgotten he's a knife maker. Maybe some day I can afford one...

What kind of trekking poles are you using?

Mine are Black Diamond Ergo Cork. They have been good for my use. The only issue I have found is the locks sometimes slip when I put full weight on a pole. Now I check the cam screws before a trip and tighten them if needed.
