The empty jacket scenario, suggests that the bullet “failed” in it’s assigned task! memtb
cahunter805, I recounted the small bullet, only as many people use (IMO) cartridges/calibers too small for the game they’re shooting. It was the “empty jacket” scenario I was mostly speaking of...
I know what some look like, after they “failed” to kill an animal! I wasn’t impressed! In over 55+ years of hunting, I have found remnants of several bullets that failed to kill the animal. There were no apparent fresh injuries, and the animal appeared quite healthy.....until I shot it! ;) Some...
I started hunting bear, in the late ‘80’s! But, that “was” before Instagram! Though, I don’t think I’d have garnered many followers! I do have pictures in the “family” photo album.....Rated G! memtb
Many years ago, I was experiencing flatted points, such as you described! Never actually started to “rupture” ( open-up) the jacket. But, from the amount of flattening....it looked to be the next degree of “flattening”! Mono’s solved that problem....along with several other problems! ;) memtb
VikingsGuy, Agreed! It certainly comes down to the shooter’s experience....good or bad! Some folks merely handle recoil better/differently than others.
Also.....Congratulations on Sunday’s Win! memtb
Don, I’m responding for my wife here. She doesn’t shoot much from the bench, her rifle kicks a bit, and she also sees it as “boring”! She can shoot pretty good from the bench, but is pretty darn “lethal” in the field. I’ve heard her on many occasions, when someone commented about her hunting...
We bought one several years ago in 30-06. It was priced right, and we didn’t have a 30-06. With minimal load development, it is very promising for accuracy. I’ve heard some negative comments about, magazine/feed issues.....but negative comments have been made about every rifle manufacturer! I...
Bingo! The fine and jail time would be substantial! Loss of firearms, vehicle and future hunting rights.... along with the fine and jail time is typical here! memtb
I’ve taken a Pronghorn and a black bear with a 44 mag revolver, many years ago. Been away from it for 30 years. Several years ago, bought a new revolver and really want to get back into it! I was going to get a deer this year, nothing special....just a deer. Didn’t get to hunt. Still have an...
More and more recently! To many issues have become a major distraction! Hunting was a break away from life, really enjoyed just spending days out. Now, it’s more like ....quickly get freezer meat and get back home! This has really quenched the passion for hunting I once had! memtb
My wife (2nd marriage for both of us) right after her divorce, took her sons hunting in their old “beater” 1976 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham. It was all she had, but she kept her boys hunting!
Which brings up a funny story. When she killed a Pronghorn with them, she was going to show them...
Add being “color blind”, and wet leaves to that scenario.....and things really get tough! Maybe that’s the reason I like big calibers and exit wounds! memtb
Awesome! We need many more Fathers and Sons,Daughters as well, like you! You make our sport proud!
I’ve got some grandsons very similar to yours, hunting and taking deer since 5 or 6. However, their Dad’s not a serious shooter....so, they can’t “ hold a candle” to your son’s shooting...
