The Leupold 2.5-8x36 is one of the best straight up hunting scopes out there. Low enough 2.5x to hunt under 30 yards…and 8x is enough to hunt whitetail at 300 yards. Clear and bright enough to hunt right up to 30m after sunset. No bragging, no boasting. Just a straight up hunting scope with...
That’s a good buck! GREAT Job and loved the Story! Sitka does NOT make for an easy hunt and I love your attitude towards it!
If you could pick just one thing to do differently, what would it have been?
Sure.
I “think” it’s this: https://www.rei.com/product/227905/rei-co-op-trailgate-shelter. It was called the Tailgater I think…or something…I got it on clearance and this is obviously a newer version, not that I can find a difference.
Basically, it’s a super lightweight sunshade/canopy. The...
JC, I like the GFC approach. Welcome to Camp Bougie. My GFC on a 1794 Tundra 4x4…in this case it’s at the end of the Trans Taiga highway. I’m really looking forward to 20 nights of hunting with it. I am truly amazed at how well this thing sleeps.
Where did you get an insulation kit? I...
I see it more as a use case thing. Hunting a Cape Buff with their black hide…a standard black reticle can disappear. An illuminated dot is a big help.
Hunting pigs in low light where the reticle disappears is another good example.
At least for the couple I have, the reticle is not...
Here we go. This would have been early, December 2008. We always did that ride around the first full weekend of December. This was shot on Highway 1, North of Big Sur. It's a really prominent pull out.
The birds were totally chill. It was so cool to be that close to such a rare animal...
I did a report on the California Condor back in my youth…that was about 50 years ago.
23. That was the number. There were 23 California Condors in existence. 23.
Circa 2007, a few of my motorcycle friends of mine and I are on out annual ride to Monterey. Return trip, pull over on the coast...
I dunno. I’m not sure it’s about the tool as much as it is about how the tool forces the hunt.
I can tell you the following:
My Primary Rifle is one of two: a Remington M7MS (full mannlicher stock from the Custom Shop) in .257 Roberts topped with a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36 high gloss duplex...
Assumption, since you did say thick thick woods…if it groups 1.5 MOA, you’re good.
If you are not copper limited, the cheapest soft point (*not FMJ) you can find will do the job.
I found that the cheapest 150gr. Winchester white-box, the 150gr Federal Blue Box and 150 gr. Norma Whitetail ammo...
Regular cameras tripod. Piece of flat 2” sheet metal about 6-7” across (3/8” holes drilled in each far corner) with a hole drilled in the center to accommodate the mounting nut. A bungee cord or two…crisscrossed to hold the bins in place. Or some used, frayed paracord. Whatever is on hand...
